Robinson Arms XCR in 223 ???

please take my accuracy numbers with a small grain of sand, i am still new to the semi-auto game and tend to get excited and pull the trigger faster than true accuracy demands:redface:

but i was still very surprised by the heavier bullets overall spread.

the groups with the 40 gr vmax were 2" max.

for the most part, 7 or 8 out of 10 were within the 1" to 1.5" mark which is quite good for my shooting abilities and i am more than pleased with the rifle:)

and i will also admit that getting a solid rest with the rear bag and that factory stock is no easy feat.
 
I have held and shot XCRs down here in the US. I think they are definitely cool looking, also, they have the reliability of a gas piston rifle. My only beef is that I found them exceedingly heavy for a .556 mm. On the other hand, while I have a Colt AR as well as AK-101 (5.56 mm) clones, I recently held a friends S&W M&P AR. It was VERY inviting at around 6.4 lbs sans 30 rounds in a mag. I suppose you need to ask yourself if you plan on humping the XCR around to any degree, or will you just take it from the car and the bag to the bench at the range. They are a bit beefy for my taste. . .even heavier than my AK-101 clones loaded with 30 or even 60 rounds (clamped mags)--or close in weight with 60. They aren't particularly accurate either, but then the intended use comes into play again. . but they are cool looking.

What size were you expecting for 10 shot groups from a rack grade rifle out of curiosity?

the sierra 69 gr match grouped around 3", but not very tight.

the 52 gr berger's were shooting about 5", with no bullets really near one another:eek:

the hornady vmax 40 gr were around 2" and under. with most nice and tightly centered.

i was told that the 1:9" twist that these rifles have should be better with the heavier bullets, but i guess not.

Hutchster i quess you must have forgot about posting this 2 weeks ago. In response to my 3 inch groups at 100m with 55gr + ammo


"i have a bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 on my xcr(we are talking about the robarms xcr, not the remington bolt gun right?) and it shot 1" 5 shot groups at 100 meters the first time i had it out zeroing the scope.

mind you, after getting the scope zeroed i only had 15 rounds left, but all 3 - 5 shot groups were right at the inch mark
this was using reloads with 40 gr. nosler ballistic tip's, and shooting off a bipod and rear sand bag. "

I have no idea what this shooter was doing, but comparing x number of 5rnd groups does not always translate to x number of 10 rnd groups.

Laid on top of each other with the true point of aims aligned on the 2 groups will be pretty close though.

no i remember it fine, i was just posting my experiences this time:)

the only reason i shot 5 shot groups the first time out was because that's how many i usually shot with my previous bolt action .223, and i was also a little paranoid about banging off 10 rounds at the time for fear of having a fudd complain about the 10 round mags, now i don't care:p

you should give the 40 grain vmax a shot in your gun and see how it does;)
 
In my little 21" barreled single shot T/C Contender carbine with 40gr V-Max & H322 powder I am getting 1 1/4" 300 yard 3 shot groups but the twist rate is slower didn't think they would be so accurate out of a 1 - 9" twist, I'll most definately try them when the XCR arrives.

To be fair, you should compare them to an AR with a full monolithic quad rail and similar barrel profile.

Man, for 10 shot groups out of a semi-auto I think this is asking quite a bit...I would guess most factory ammo would not be able to do under 2" groups out of a heavy barreled bolt gun.

Maybe tuning the loads might get an XCR down around 1.5-2" but I would be surprised if it ever got better than that myself.

What's the standard for M4s? 4" at 100 yards or thereabouts?

I ve started to buy equipment a press some dies and planning on making some 40 gr gopher grenades for the spring have a recipe you'd like to share

i load my 40 gr vmax's with 26.5 gr of hodgdon benchmark with winchester small rifle primers and winchester brass.
 
Well I couldn't wait...

I stopped in @ Lever Arms today and bought 500 Fiocchi 55gr FMJ reloadable brass ammo and 5 of the LAR 10 round mag's now I just need the rifle too get here...

Add these to the 1000 or so rounds that I have loaded and I'm good too go for a few weeks anyway... :p

Obviously patience is now one of my strong points... :redface:

About my comments on 100 yard groups, with my 223/22-250 single shot and bolt guns I am used to putting 10 shots into appr 3/4"- 1" and if I got 3" + groups @ 300 yards I would not be happy at all that is why when I read 3" - 5" 10 shot 100 yard groups I started to panic.
