In my attempt to escape doing any actual work this afternoon, I've been looking at guns on the interweb. I've found a few nice 10/22s but can't seem to locate any canadian suppliers of the stock i would like to use. any one know where I can get a Nordic AR 22 stock? Anyone have any experience with this stock? Is it as good as it looks, or is there something better out there that we can get our greasy hands on in Canada?

why dont you just buy the SR-22?, you can pick them up for $550,almost exact same as the nordic ,but is a factory ruger gun for less than the cost of a nordic build (stock is still made by nordic with ruger markings)

I wouldn't say its the exact same....by the time you souped up the SR22 with a decent barrel and change that fugly handgaurd, it would be just about the same price as a nordic. So Ben keep looking for a Nordic stock I am sure you will pleased with it. I have not held a SR-22, but my nordic is fun as *^%$ to shoot.

mine breaks down as such

used 1022 $2oo
nordic stock $25o
=SR22 $450

I customized it with:
A2 handgaurd $3o
A2 buttstock $25
Front sight $25
Delta Ring ect $70
Dlask 12" barrel $125

Extras $275

Total $725

Thats pretty much what I'm going for, except add a grip on the front. I've already got a 10/22 with a battered stock that can become a project. Now, where do I get the Nordic stock?

I never said it was the exact same , I said it was almost the exact same . Nordic makes the receivers for ruger and you tell me where in canada you can buy the nordic recevers for $250?. As for a decent barrel?? I sudjest you maybe read up on some reveiws as the reports are coming back as they shoot quite well ,the SR-22 Barrel is a medium weight barrel (.750) So I dont see why you would say the barrels are not decent if you have never shot one ? As far as the handgaurd Being Fugly everyone is entitled to there opinion , if you add the full length front rail to the stock handgaurd it gives it a monolithic rail from front to rear witch is perfect to add open sights .

You cannot build a "brand New " nordic for $550 period

Nordic kits are in the states for $230 USD (factor in the exchange rate and shipping ,and also if you can find some one who will export it out of the USA with papers )
Ruger 10/22 $279.00 + tax & ship
Medium heavy Barrel $100+tax and ship
Butt stock $69+tax and ship
Aluminum Handgaurd(YHM) $55+tax and ship
grip $20+tax and ship

You are sitting @ $549.15 including GST befor the nordic kit and befor shipping and those prices are conservitive
and in the end I would bet the resale value will be better on the ruger for the Identical gunbuild in the nordic just because of the fact that it is a "ruger" even though the build would be IDentical

If you have a 1022 already flip it on the EE and buy the SR22 for 550.00 you will still be ahead of the game

Nice,.. Just keep looking, I found mine in a private sale in the "buysell" 3 piece stock($250),grip($25),and buttstock ($25) $300 +shipping . I did find one on Ebay.com at the same time(I think it went for $256US)..So they are out there...

Happy Shootin :ar15:

(PS.. I forgot the grip in the first post pls add $25 )

Does anyone carry the SR-22 other than P&D? They're an EXCELLENT company (have had great support from them every time I go in), but are sold out until March :(

try sportsman den in red deer
he had 1 left when i got mine and was hoping for more to show up...

as far a building one for less and it being better.... i doubt it
i like the looks of your nordic build, but if i wanted a gun that looked like that i would buy a remington VTR597 for 450$ and put a big plastic handguard on it
not sure why everyone seems to believe that a 10/22 needs a heavy barrel, when most AR rifle dont use them and they use hotter rounds
i can put 100 rds through the sr22 basically as fast as possible and it is still cooler than dumping 30rds through my mini14 target
the sr22 doesnt use the basic 10/22 light barrel it is a medium weight.
this gun is also supposed to be a "tactical rifle" so why put all that extra weight at the front and make it more akward.

You could also go with FS556 kit, they are metal like nordic ones, i have seen some for sale on EE but im sure you could find one, if not i know they make a Evo kit thats plstic that looks promising. i have a FS556 kit and love it. good luck in the hunt!

There are definitely alot of options out there. I've never really liked the plastic stocks, and i definitely like the idea of using the interchangable AR parts to customize the 10/22. The nice thing about the metal stocks for the 10/22 is that they don't cost near as much as say for a M14. This is just another idea, i still have alot of time before the gophers come back up.

The more I look at the sr 22, the more it becomes appealing. you can put rails on the fugly handguard. i'm assuming you can swap the buttstock off. although the DIY approach is nice because you can put on what you want from the get go.

Is there a difference between the kit + a 10/22 and the Ruger sr-22? Is the kit just DIY?

Your right the nordic is more of a DIY, the SR22 is the pakage (and easier to get) you can switch out the parts to you own taste.

The SR22 has only been avail for less than a month now, thats why I went with the Nordic, otherwise I may have just gone with the SR22 and switched up some parts.

BTW Ben Welcome to the site.....nothing but sunshine and lollipops around here..lol

Does anybody know of any retailers in the Toronto area that have the sr 22 in stock right now? my only real options aside from the EE are Bass Pro or Le Baron, Epps is a possibility as well... just an hour drive for me.
