Wild Boar Hunt

Ontario bans high fence hunting

Postby stump » Thu Dec 16, 2004 8:40 am
FYI, this appeared in this morning's paper.

The Ontario government has just made it official, banning all hunting of wildlife held in captivity on game farms.
The ban will take effect April 30, 2005, to give game farm operators time to fulfil client obligations and make business adjustments.
It will be implemented through a regulation change under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

An estimated 200-400 animals are hunted in captivity each year in Ontario, mainly wild boar and non-native deer.
This regulation change will not affect animals raised as farmed animals for meat and other products.

Found this^ on the Excaliber Forum.

So according to the folks at Big Tusks the website hasn't been updated in awhile. Therefore it seems that the ban does affect them. They still do hunts but you purchase the animal before hand and how you dispatch it is up to you. They do offer wild boar meat for sale same as a butcher shop.Oh well I guess its off to Texas.

North Battleford, Saskatchewan, 120 acre property, the business is Wild Boar Adventures, contact Kelly at
(306) 445-4234.
I know what you are thinking...yes it is in theory a canned hunt, but you know what with this property, the terrain is a good mix of open fields near the top of the property and in the valley poplar thickets. By the slough the wild boar congregate in wallows.
And lots of trails and escape routes for you and the pigs.
No high power modern rifle, but shotgun and slug, muzzleloader & in-line, bow and crossbow allowed.
His business has offered newer options, so I cannot give updated information myself.

I guess Quebec doesn't have a similar law. Altamira seems to offer bison and red stag in addition to the boar hunt. Plus, it's not far from the Ontario border... I'd still like to hear from anyone that's been there... The boar hunt sounds neato.

You can go to Texas and pay around $150 a day to hunt.

I like this idea, but the logistics of the hunt concern me, especially if you want to fly, and return with some meat?. I have hunted in New Mexico and we drove down and returning was no problem.
Any contact info for Texas or maybe a state on the East coast like NC?

at the www.dunnaltamira.com place it says $425-600 for a euro boar and then (supplementary charges for less than 5 hunters) so does this mean for 1-5 guys its that much and if you were to have more guys it would cost more $?
Although you''ll need camping supplies, Kelly in North Battleford, last I checked, did not charge this much.

cheers

I emailed them. Seems like it's $400 per animal (100lbs) for groups less than 5. They ground hunt (I don't really know what this means) - I guess spot and stalk. A trophy animal (350lbs) is $950.

I'm thinking of doing it, I can drive down for the hunt, so if it's $500 or so total, it'd be pretty cool. I guess I'd be doing the butchering at home.

nonono In Texas the permit for non residents costs $132 for the year. A 5 day permit is available for just those 5 fixed days.
I'm off to Bastrop County this March.
- No limit on animals - ###, size or number.
- You don't have to take them from the field = you can use them as coyote bait. :)
- It is recommended not to eat the bigger ones (eat the ones under 100LB)
- Shooting from the truck or ATV on private land is ok - just don't fall off.
- No hunter orange or helmet on private land.
- NVG and other night sights are very good but most use spot lights.
- A rifle that can pump out as many in a short time as possible is recommended and a good handgun for back up is not a bad idea according to the wildlife officer.
- Permission means getting the ok of the land lord and get his name no letters or other documents are required.

I'm buying the license this week and booking the flight on the weekend.

Dang, I'd use the handgun only. That's the beauty of US laws = simplicity. Wish we could carry a handgun while hunting here...
