Wild Boar Hunt

Canned hunts.

About as "fair chase" as buying a package of sausages at Loblaws.

I understand that it's not considered "sporting" if your guide:rolleyes: ties your hog to the tree with a rope shorter than 5'. ;)

Pathetic !

I attended a canned hunt for wild boar years ago in Alberta and it was a short stroll followed by an execution.Never again.............Harold

Wow, that was 2 years ago! LOL

That hunt was awesome.....shot pigs, javalina, a coyote, and messed up on a bobcat. Last year I went to a ranch in north Texas that was great too...shot a bunch of pigs there. A month from today I'm going back to south Texas again (different ranch).

I've fallen in love with Texas! My annual February pig hunt has become a highlight of my hunting year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kinda license do you need to hunt feral hogs in Texas?

I heard a non resident license is close to $400??

i emailed them. Seems like it's $400 per animal (100lbs) for groups less than 5. They ground hunt (i don't really know what this means) - i guess spot and stalk. A trophy animal (350lbs) is $950.

I'm thinking of doing it, i can drive down for the hunt, so if it's $500 or so total, it'd be pretty cool. I guess i'd be doing the butchering at home.

waaaaait!! I gotta better place..

!.5 hrs north of Montreal (probably as close to Ottawa
been there twice! loved it!! i too thought it would have been a fish in a barrell ,kinda cheating secenario...not at all!
your boars are released into about 100 acres of land 2 weeks before youre hunting day.
day of the hunt, you start at 8 am and you track the heard of boar till about 1 pm..if you havnt gotten your boar yet (or any at all) they release the dogs who sniff out the boars.. you then have to follows the sound of the barking dogs,,once u get to the boar you got about 2 second to take youre shot, cause once the boar sees you ,hes off and running again (and so are you)we all literally ran for hour and hours! (adrenanline baby) the boars arent scared of the dogs so they get tired or running and stand off with the dog(s) until you get there.
the way i see it there is no diff hunting in an enclosed space (100 acres) or in Texas if u are using dogs.. in both cases the dog(s) does the needed tracking, and you harvest the animal.. no diff..
2 years ago(i was one of the last hunters to make it to the end of the day boarless) i couldnt even get mine with help from the dogs(dogs got tired and they lost the scent from all the other kills) the owner had to harvest the boar the next day.last year i found the heard by 10 am with no help from the dogs,, took a 50 yard shot with my scopeless cz858 and dropped the boar on the spot,(my buddys ran for the next 5 hrs.HA!),looking forward to this years boar hunt! i highly recommend it for everyone!(even the black belt grand master hunters who post here))

Awesome way to start the new year and only 7 miles from home. apx 250lbs live weight. One of the fattest ones I've shot yet. Tenderloins on the bbq. they actually smell good; so here is hoping that this one is edible.

The website is in French only.

Do the people at the ranch speak English?

Can't see many of the homeboys stateside warming up to that French only site.

They'd look for the "in English" button and if there wasn't one they'd be looking elsewhere.

Do you bring your own translator?

yeah i noticed too the no english site..he gets alot of americans (his choice of name worked lol) he also gets alot of europeans that come for the Quebec black bear season.then they go to him for bison. he speaks english and is a super cool guy.we now go every year now,,450$ for a boar and if you are a group of 10 or more,he allways throws in a special 3-500 pound boar for whover may be so lucky! (great for boar sausages, yum! he also offers butcher service for around 100bucks.. (we take ours to our butcher,,

I've been looking forward to trying to shoot some boar here in SK. I have heard they are in the Moose Jaw, Canora, Delisle, and North Battleford areas and have seen pictures of successful hunts but have yet to try.
