Another transport question

When moving a restricted firearm from home to range are there any stipulations as to the type of vehicle used? For instance, does the vehicle need a trunk separate from the passenger compartment to store the locked case?

How about transport using an RV, or a cargo carrier on a motorcycle? Could you walk it to a range with a backpack if you lived near one?

Finally, must the vehicle used for transport be registered to me or can a friend and I attend the range using his car to move the weapon?

not sure about using a motorcycle but you can use any vehicle really to transport guns i leave mine in my back seat of my car in a carry case its not locked but id suggest you to put on a trigger lock of some sort. and not sure about walking over with it in your back pack, i would check with the bylaws or with your local police to what the law is where you are located.

Transporting Firearms Safely
Non-restricted firearms

Unload your firearms
Muzzleloaders can be kept loaded when being transported between hunting sites but the firing cap or flint must be removed.
Restricted and prohibited firearms

* Unload the firearms; and
* Attach a secure locking device to the firearms; and * Lock the firearms in a sturdy, non-transparent container; and
* Remove the bolt or bolt carrier from any automatic firearms (if removable).
* Obtain an Authorization to Transport (call 1 800 731-4000).

Leaving Any Class of Firearm
in an Unattended Vehicle
• Lock non-restricted
firearms and locked
containers carrying
restricted or prohibited
firearms in the trunk
or in a similar lockable
compartment.
• If the vehicle does not
have a trunk or lockable
compartment, put firearms and firearm
containers out of sight inside the vehicle
and lock the vehicle.• If you are in a remote wilderness area and
cannot lock your non-restricted firearms inside
your vehicle, unload them and put them out
of sight. Attach a secure locking device to the
firearms unless they are needed for predator
 
When I bring my pistols to the range in my truck they are trigger locked in a padlocked black plastic case with my registrations and ATT paperwork. The case sits on the seat beside me covered with a jacket or newspaper. If I stop to get a coffee on the way, I park and lock the truck where I can see it then proceed to the range.

Pretty easy regs to follow with a vehicle, not sure about walking or a motorcycle.

I was wondering the same thing as ffolkes. Last week I went to the range, I drove my car with my buddy and his hand gun in the trunk. I do have my rpal, but I don't own any handguns. My buddy does have his ATT for the handgun. Was it legal??
 
I think you were ok Daumer,

My ATT states the location of the restricteds to any range in Ont. It doesn't say anything about the vehicle so as long as you picked up your buddy to go to the range and he had all his paperwork with the guns properly stored you should be fine.

Regs do not state that you have to transport by vehicle only that if you use a vehicle it calls for blah blah blah. If you do not use a vehicle....i.e. you are walking then the vehicle rules (i.e. trunk etc) do not apply.....Walking is permitted lol.....after all you would have to walk it to your vehicle. Unloaded, a secure locking device and inside a locked container in your backpack would be fine. It doesn't matter who owns the car.

It's not only suggested, it's the law.
