PAL "in progress"

I sent my papers off in September I had everything in order It is now January and 4 phone calls to them later It should be here this week. It will end up being a 14 week wait for me! Totally ridiculous. My faith in bureaucrats falls even further. It 's been so long my wife has managed to get her PAL and then send away for and receive her hunter #. And our PAL forms were sent in the same envelope.

:shotgun: Un-f***king-believable!! :shotgun:

I feel your pain!
I wrote the pal test in October and got the application in the mail asap and I'm still waiting.
In fact last week the CFC sent me a letter saying they couldn't process my application because I didn't provide proof of passing the RPAL test when I was only applying for a PAL?!?!
Unbelievable!

Upgrading from a POL to a PAL, challenged on Dec 11th, mailed on Dec 12th (Saturday), they received on Dec 14th, I received my PAL today. Not too bad considering holidays ;)

I am happy to say I finally received my PAL. It took 14 long weeks but is over now!!
Good luck to anyone who hasn't received theirs yet and if it taking too long; Phone them. Because After 7 weeks I called and they had sent my file to Ontario (I live in BC) and Upon review she told me I had written my address correctly. I wouldn't wish that ordeal upon anyone.

:ar15:

I just checked my application status online and it says my license has been issued!!!!!!!!
Yea-hoo! Of course I don't actually have it yet, so I hope it doesn't get lost in the mail or something. (fingers crossed)

Be patient,

For you newbies, you can apply before you do your PAL and/or RPAL tests. So send in the application with t'xd and i's dotted, references, photos and payment etc. CFC may then give you approx 10 weeks to submit your test results.

Both my references were telephoned, so was I. But wife was not ..she's OK with that.

I have a hard time seeing them deny anyone a PAL. I would hope they would at least write "denied" on your online status.
Has anyone ever been denied? I would assume that if they thought you were a criminal that would be even more reason for them to want you on their list and in their sight.

Yeah, but who knows.

So does anyone know whats happens when you are denied, whats the process ?

cheers

Well my PAL finally showed up in my mailbox yesterday!
It only took from The end of October to now for a firearms license.
With some of the BS involved I could really understand the younger guys just saying F it, its not worth it and taking up golf instead.
Don't get me wrong I love the shooting sports/hunting but man they make it a hassel to get started at it.

RPAL, References & Voice Stress Analysis

Well, the RCMP website says my RPAL has been issued.

It took 28 days from the date they received the app.

They also called both my references, my wife and spoke to me for 20 minutes...

Now, based on the type of questions she asked, made me wonder if they are using voice stress analysis to see if you are lying.
If you do a search on the RCMP website, you will see that they are even offering this voice analysis service to their policing partners....(and apparently it is 98-99% accurate)

The typical question went something like this..."are you currently or have you ever been involved in illegal activities...; are you involved with the importation of illegal drugs into Canada..." and they went on in this vain.

The interviewer did state, "listen very closely to the questions and if there is any doubt about your answers, further investigations will follow."

Guess I got lucky, as at the end of the interview she said the app is now approved and forwarded to the CFO.

...and I got extra lucky with the wife, as she told me that the thought was in the back of her mind to put a stop to my buying rifles and soon to be handguns with what _should be_ the family vacation money.... <sigh>

Quick question. Who does the interviews ? Is it the cfc office or the cfo office?

I called about my application ( PAL only ) the other day because its been 30 days so far and have not been contacted for an interview and neither have my references. The lady at CFC said the CFO has my application for FINAL approval, What does that mean ?

BTW does anyone know the extension # for the Alberta CFO office?

Wow, things sure have changed in the two years since I got my PAL...

Well, I got my PAL in September 2009 and none of the references or wife were called and it only took 30 days till card was in hand...

I was kinda blown away when I talked to the brother-in-law and he said the questions they asked him (as a reference) were kinda foolish when I went for my RPAL in December...then I had to answer them...

I don't know if it had to do with applying for the RPAL right after receiving my PAL...but I thought it was strange...but they were pretty detailed...somewhere I must have flagged something....
