PAL "in progress"

So I'm waiting for my PAL to be approved. I have 8 days left until I reach day 28.

They called me, but I missed their call, they called my references, and then I called in. After all three interviews were completed; I found out that one of my references said something in the interview that completely blew my mind.

They asked them: "What they thought my intentions were for applying for my restricted license" and their response was "defense...I guess". What the hell right? There is nothing farther from the truth! I have absolutely no intentions of using any firearm to defend myself. I just want to take it to the range and shoot targets. I am so angry right now. I have been looking forward to this for years, I have my own house now and the freedom and the ability to pursue this interest and now I might be completely F****d.

So now I'm wondering just how screwed my application is...and if there is anything I can do besides wait?

All I can say is that I regret using that person as a reference at all. As apparently they don't a clue about who I am as a person, my interests or my hobbies. If I never have anything to do with them again, it will be too soon.

That really sucks. Don't know what they will do with that, but it illustrates how fundamentally stupid the whole process is. They are asking someone else to speculate on a matter about which they have no knowledge. I have no doubt that you did not discuss your reasons for applying with your references, but if you had they would have accepted your reasons without giving it a second thought, and would have provided that answer to the CFC query.

Probably time to make a set of sample questions the CFC asks so applicants can give their reference the correct answers in order to avoid the risk associated with these stupid speculative questions.

Ask your references what the interview questions are and post them here so traps like that don't catch anyone else:

Thanks Calalta.

You’re absolutely right about the process. I do not see the point in asking people about another person’s intentions. Who are they to know or speculate? I do see the need for a process to regulate it, there's no doubt in my mind about that, for the safety of our communities. I just don’t see the benefit of this references part.

The only thing that people, outside of the firearm community, hear is when someone or something negative happens that involves a firearm or what they see in the movies. Not only that but people who are firearm ignorant probably think that defense might be a suitable answer as they have no knowledge and speculate based on how other countries like the United States use firearms. It confuses people.

It’s really too bad that more people don’t see all the happy people at the range. If they saw everyone having good, old, safe fun shooting clays/ targets then maybe they would open their minds and realize that there is a positive side to firearms too. I just wish that I had shown them and not just expected them to understand.

Just look at all the people engaging in good, old, and safe fun that encourages you to be outside, socializing and exercising. In my opinion some of the most positive experiences you could have...and who would have thought that this could all come from firearms.

the waiting game

recieved by the cfc april 1st showed on the site by april 12th. does the 28 days begin april 1st? so excited to get my pal can't hardly wait to go target shooting.

Totally ridiculous. My app shows received on Mar 21....but my damn course test results are backlogged at the Ontario CFOs office for approx. 7 weeks (and then said wait 3 weeks after that to receive it WTF  )

Looks like I'm going to be one of those example bad cases. On top of that Kristen at CFO Ontario told me my app is going to be forwarded to Peels Firearm Officer, and that will definitely take time too.....

If only the ombudsman for the Firearms program was a member of this website and we could just do an online '#####ing' haha. Not so haha actually, any advice......anyone?

Date of reception is the start of the countdown, NOT the date it appears on the website
