Did you guys see this? I kind of just shook my head. Seems a bit ambiguous to say the least.

Robinson Arms Sues Remington, Bushmaster, RRA, and Magpul

Robinson Arms, manufacturers of the XCR have filed suit yesterday in US District Court for Utah against Remington, Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, and Magpul Industries based on alleged infingement of their patent (Multi-caliber ambidextrously controllable firearm #7,596,900) issued 6 October, 2009 and initially filed in August of 2003.

Specifically, the weapons alleged to have violated Robinson’s patent are the Remington/Bushmaster ACR, Magpul Masada/Massoud, and the RRA LAR-8. All of these weapons feature a magazine release that is manipulated by the trigger finger from within reach of the trigger guard as well as a similar bolt hold open device. We have read the complaint and it is fairly ambiguous as the which patent claims they allege were violated.

Both Bushmaster and Remington are part of the Freedom group, owned by Cerberus Capital Management. So for taking on Freedom Group I give them an “E” for Effort. Of note is the timing of the suit, just days before SHOT Show as well as Robinson’s announcement on their website that they would be exhibiting after all in a booth (#20034) shared with Serbu.

Good luck with that R.A. Hope they have lots of cash. Their shysters must have a lot of faith in themselves.
Maybe they want Cerberus to buy them out?

Later....

If this is true....Wow, so much for RA's reputation, they would be lumped in with #### Swan , so long Robinson Arms been nice knowing ya in that case.

Looks like they have been waiting 6 years for the jackpot.

I am surprised a general "arrangement" is patentable - this is like patenting bicycle by patenting locating a set of pedals between 2 wheels.

I guess if I invent a bicycle, I will make sure I patent it that way.

So because they cant get a real government contract they are perhaps trying to find other means of revenue generation? Or maybe they think the suit will buy them some PR be it favourable or not. Surely it happening right before SHOT is just coincidence to right.... lame.

They shouldve saved their money and spent it on things like R&D instead.

i was more surprised that they are not sueing knights armament for patent enfringement when the PDW came out, when it first seen it i thought it was the RA micro. very few differnces. but further inspection revealed subtle diffences. anyway hopefully this law suit wont hurt them, seems as how they do seem to care about our market, and not just the US marketplace. as for the BFA during the trails, thats nothing but political crap, if the gov. was serious about picking a good rifle why not just through on an existing BFA, i could be wrong but don't they use an existing BFA, not some new design right. beauracratic BS

From procurement standard point - this is the way it should be run. If everyone can add and subtract after submission to RFP/RFQ, there is NO fairness and transparency to the process.

This is not BS. This is the correct way of running a RFP or RFQ process. The government itself will open itself to complaint and lawsuit if it gets caught of violating important rules like that.

I hope Robarm has some good legal council. They won their first lawsuit against Remington a while back on the XCR name lets hope they have their ducks in a row on this one as well. Or they could be in for a big surprise I have a feeling Remington doesn't have much love for Robarm and would love to bankrupt them with legal fees. Either way this will be bad for gun buyers as it will delay both companies products. :(
