Value of shooter grade luger or broomhandle

I am considering in the near future (providing my bank account allow it) either a luger or broomhandle pistol. Mostly I want to get a shooter grade one (don't really need collector grade) as I plan on shooting it and not just keeping it in a case. Even if it needs refinishing I just love the action of both of these guns and would like to have one in the collection. Maybe one day if I am rich I will have both in excellent condition but for now just something that goes bang every time and makes a good conversation piece is good enough for me.

What are the values of these rifles in average conditon? I know its usually quite substantial but are there any in Canada that can be had reasonably?

Shooter Luger with barrel longer then 4" around $600-$800
Shooter C96 around $800-1000
C96's were made in .30Mauser and 9mm with the 9mm being a bit less common.

You could also buy a shooter Luger with a short prohib barrel and have it transferred to a smith to get a new longer barrel put on and the class changed to restricted...

My information is pretty much the same as Can-down's. Neither one of these guns falls into the "inexpensive shooter" category. Lugers are fairly complicated inside, and if you buy a "shooter", it may have problems that may be pretty expensive to fix. And if something in the Broomhandle breaks, replacing it will be quite a problem. Get on good terms with a good gunsmith. If you can, whatever you decide on, try to make part of the deal that you have a 3-day inspection period, to be able to take the gun out and shoot it.

There's a "shooter" luger on the handgun EE. It's a "prohibited" gun, but if you have a gunsmith, you can have a longer ("restricted") barrel put on it. I think your 'smith will know how that's done, legally. It'll turn out to be about the same price as was discussed earlier.
