That's an understatement. I fired a couple 3" slugs from one and it was brutal. Way worse recoil than a 300 Win Mag (my current upper limit of personal experience).
But yes, it's perfectly safe.

3" are BAD!!!!! I had alot of blood on my hand from the trigger guard cutting me and I held it really tight. Mind you it was cool It wasn't the guns fault by any means, all my fault. Great little gun. I sold it and kept the 12.5 pump.

Try Remington Reduced Recoil slugs - very nice to shoot out of the outlaw, and quite accurate to boot. (At 25 yards or so - it ain't no varmint gun!)
I've also used the Reduced Recoil buckshot, and the patterns are amazing out of the outlaw while being very soft shooting.
