Quick Reloads for SKS?

Don't know much about SKS's, but can those rifles be fed 10 rds. cartridge clips (the ones Chech surplus ammo comes in) for semi-auto fire? Let's say with the mag floor plate removed? Or is there any other way to quickly reload those rifles for competition (I mean without pushing the rounds into the magazine one by one from the top), like modified or aftermarket mags or anything like that?

Any help would be appreciated.
 
The SKS should be pinned to 5 rounds but some people have cut their stripper clips into 2 so they hold 5 rounds instead of 10. Then just slide the clip into the guide and push the rounds straight into the mag. I think that'll be the fastest way to reload.

I just use a full 10 round clip, push in 5, fire and then use the remaining rounds in the clip ... but I'm not concerned with speed.

When you try to load your SKS from the bottom make sure you have a buddy filming and post it on you-tube please =)

I have found that the fastest way to load the SKS is to remove 5 rnds from the stripper. Lock open, Left holds the top of the stripper rail, right grasps the tip of the top cartridge levering up slightly up using the thumb to push. Push down using the top cartridge as your lever until the last is seated with the thumb. When you get fast you can catch the bolt on the way past with the heel of your hand to chamber the first round.

Practice, practice. at <$200 /1100 rnds there is no excuse for being slow :p
 
Since the ammo comes in stripper clips, you don't need to load one at a time.
If you remove the mag floor plate, you can't load ammo. The techniques stated earlier by others is the best method.

5 rounds, what a load of crap. What next, 3 rounds, then 1, dreamie-eyed liberals rule the sheep in Canada, what a laugh.
 
I use the SKS for the rapid fire leg of the military rifle match. It is much faster to load five rounds with a stripper clip than it is to change mags on a m14.

To reduce the risk of an errant round, I make sure there are only 5 rounds on the stripper. i do not cut clips in half. It is easier to grab the clip if it is left at full length.
 
I tried an experiment in the last 3 gun match I did. I took my stripper clips and removed 5 rounds and then put a couple of wraps of electrical tape around the inside of the stripper clip so that they didn't move around. I found the best results by leaving a small space between the inside round and the tape. This help prevent the outside round from 'walking' off the end of the stripper clip.

Worked reasonably well while reloading "under stress".
 
I've cut my strippers down to 5 rounders, crimped one end then painted the crimped end with flourescent paint. When I draw the clip out of a mag pouch all I have to do is ensure that the painted side is up. I use the SKS in re-enactor matches where you have to carry a battle rifle and a carbine. I find it very easy to carry 75 rds on clips in a bandoleer. This is a very efficient way to carry large quantities of ammo. With 5rd clips the SKS is a very slick handling carbine when used against targets under 200m.

Tin snips will do, I just loaded 5 fired casings onto the clip, marked, cut the clip, crimped one end, buffed the rough edges off the clip and painted the crimped end. It works great in M1 Garand cartridge belts also.
