What is your all time favourite pistol/revolver?

My G20 10mm "carbine", Second my G27 .40 sub compact.

Really? Out of curiosity, how do you come to know something like that?

I love mine and would never sell it, but I wouldn't call it my favourite revolver. It just isn't versatile enough, too limited in scope, to deserve that title. If I had to choose, it would be my 5" 7-shot 686, seen here when it was still a virgin:

Semi-autos... Difficult to say. Probably my non-railed Sig P226 in .357Sig. Either that or my Kimber Compact CDP II:

I, too lust for a 5" Model 29. The 5" half-lugged barrel looks so perfectly proportioned on an N-Frame.

It is unfortunate that this configuration is so rare; a few hundred were made in the late '50s-early '60s for the dealer H.H. Harris and there were a few more individual special orders back when S&W did such things. I think S&W also made extra 5" barrels that were fitted to some 29s after they left the factory.

Nowadays, I believe S&W wants a 500 gun minimum to do special orders. Someone should convince a distributor like Lew Horton to order a run of 5" 29s.
 
My all time favourite is my Colt SAA in .45 colt. I use a 250 gr nosler jhp over 16 gr. of 2400 & a magnum primer. To make this powder burn properly i turned down the expander ball by .0015. the increased friction allows the powder time to get burning properly. this increased the mv by 100fps in my gun to 985 fps, & no more unburned powder left behind. This load will shoot completely through a mooses chest cavity, breaking ribs on both sides. I used to have a carry permit for my trapline in the 70s, & used the gun a lot on game at that time.
 
The custom stainless Caspian Race ready in .40S&W I had Paul Barrette build. In a moment of stupidity I sold it to a guy in BC. If it ever comes up on the radar, I'm buying it back.
 
HK USP stainless 9mm with PSI FO adjustable sights, and Match trigger. ALthough I did sell it, I have to say it was fun installing the parts and experimenting with all the variants. Most reliable pistol I have owned.
** although my stock 2 9mm in gun kote finish with black grips is starting to climb up in my list.:cool:

In total, this is the fourth model 29 I've had, two have been 8 3/8" and two 4". I've kept this one because it's been the most accurate, so far;). The S&W factory ivory grips were a separate purchase I lucked into:D at a local gun show about ten years ago. Apparently, or so I've been told, they're worth more than the gun.

Hi John,

Well ... it just looks right. Historic lines with high-tech steel and grips. TOTALLY functional. No (NADA) styling cues. No more material used than was absolutely necessary ...

I bought a Model 19 in 1975 in north-central B.C. (the Chilcotin) and sold it (foolishly) when I moved to The City. At first I thought that I'd never prefer this rubber and stainless-style version to that walnut and blue-steel version ...

(I live in real wilderness now ... wolves, cougars and bears ... )
