John Dillinger packed a 1911 handgun chambered in .38 Super that was converted to Full Auto and then fitted with a Thompson foregrip. Anyone have more information on this? Where is the gun now?

Here's a picture of the real gun Dillinger carried.

Anyone seen this thing up close?

Hmmm. Full auto + 8 rounds = ........ out of ammo. lol.

edit: oh, in .38 super I actually have no clue how many it would hold, it looks cool in a weird sort of way though. Never seen nor heard about this gun before.

I saw a really crappy picture of it featuring a very long mag sticking out the bottom but I cant find the picture now.

Damn I can't believe I can actually say this, I must be getting old.

Back in the day, before the double stacks showed up all the cool IPSC guys shot .38 super for the 10 round mags :ar15:

Does anyone still use .38 super anymore? I know Kimber makes one but I don't recall seeing any ammo in that caliber. I wouldn't mind trying that classic round.

looks like the forend grip off a thompson attached to that 1911- as far as the f/a goes, if you understand the 1911, it's fairly simple to make it go f/a- a quick application of a file to a certain component or just outright removal of said component will do that- and there's a company in new york state that's been making extended magazines for years for the 1911- i've got a pinned 12 rounder for the 45

i think (from the the pic above) the gun dillinger used looks dumb.

Why do you say that? If it is controllable in FA that is one wicked, easily concealable machine pistol very well suited to combat in close quarters.

Any idea of the cyclic rate on a converted 1911? And if it is at all controllable with the foregrip?

Mark

Dillinger was way better with his weapon choice and new a lot more than the Barrow gang.
Remember, he also made a wooden one that facilitated his escape from a specially-secured holding facility.

it's about 40rpm- it's listed under the specs, which is reasonable, - anybody that says 750 isn't being practical- it's an interpetation of how fast you can empty a magazine, times so many into a minute- it's not taking into account ejection, insertion, or charging- all that is going to drop your cyclic rate in the real world- and if it's done the way i think it is, it's pull the trigger and hang on- next time you have your 1911 apart for cleaning, look carefully and you'll be able to figger it out

But they both ended up with lead pills for their efforts. ;)
