IPSC Canada has added a Match Results Presentation System to their website. The idea was to create a user based system for match directors to instantly make their match results accessible to the public, or the IPSC Canada membership. As soon as the match results are uploaded, they are available for display by overall results, stage results, or by individual shooters.

Match directors who use the system need only know the IPSC Canada password, or possibly their section username and password (if it will be volunteered by sectional webmasters) to create their user id and be able to upload match results immediately.

Not only will the results be viewable on the IPSC Canada website, but the system is able to be embedded directly into an existing website. Your section, club or even your personal webpage can have the same results added by adding a single line of html into your page.

There is an "Idiot's Guide" available at http://www.ipsc-canada.org/results/pw/MatchResultsSystem.pdf, but most semi computer literate people do not even need to really look at the documentation.

The only part you might need to read is the last section on how to actually add the results to your existing page. I've copied it below:

<iframe id=frame src="http://www.ipsc-canada.org/results/results.php" width=500 height=500 frameborder=0>
Basic code to insert match results into an existing webpage. Last names will not be shown. It inserts a square block into your webpage 500 pixels high and 500 pixels wide. If you insert it into a table, you can change the width to be width=100% and it will work just fine. You can change the height to match whatever your webpage will allow, but if the number of matches gets very large, scrollbars will appear that allow you to scroll through your matches. The frameborder can be enabled (frameborder=1) to create a border around the iframe, but it doesn’t blend in with your webpage as well.

<iframe id=frame src="http://www.ipsc-canada.org/results/resultsln.php" width=100% height=500 frameborder=0>
Basic code to insert match results into an existing webpage and show full first and last names. It will display the list of matches to everyone, but if you want to try and access the actual results for a match, you will be asked for a password. This will be set so that there is an IPSC Canada password, but passwords set by each province will work as well.

<iframe id=frame src="http://www.ipsc-canada.org/results/resultsln.php?province=ON" width=100% height=500 frameborder=0>
By adding in the “?province=XX”, you can specify that only the results from the set province will be displayed. The option to search by Province will be disabled. Acceptable codes are BC AB SK MB ON QC NS NB NL and must be upper case letters.

The actual results pages (for IPSC Canada) have not been linked to the IPSC-Canada website yet, but two versions will be available:
1. A public version that will not show last names (www.ipsc-canada.org/results.html)
2. A version where you will need to enter the appropriate password to view last names (www.ipsc-canada.org/resultsln.html)

This is a low maintenance, easy to set up and use system that can make the job of a webmaster a lot easier. I didn't have to put a lot of work into the Canada version, since it's just an enhancement of the IPSC BC system we've been using for years, but I do think it is a worthwhile system to use, otherwise I wouldn't have pitched it to IPSC Canada.

If you want to sign up and start using the system now, or look into the interface, the URL is www.ipsc-canada.org/results/pw

Seem like something is missing up there. I am getting a error when opening match results:

Not Found

The requested URL /results/pw\resultmatch.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Thanks.
Also, can I make a suggestion to not open a separate window when clicking on the match link? Though I could live with it if WinMSS report download would be available :)

By the way, with system like that, it would be really nice if match organizers would name their matches in the WinMSS report somehow more informative. We often see something like "Level 1 Match", so you can't tell match location, etc from the match name and it hard to remember what was that match results after some time. I would suggest to use format like this:

<club> <month day> <optional match name> <Level x>

For example:

* Waterford January 3 Nightmare after Christmass III Level 2
* Barrie April 1 Level 1

We may also add section upfront, e.g. CAN-ON, CAN-BC, etc...

Is there some channels to notify stats directors with such recommendations trough IPSC Canada or NROI?

WinMss allows you to include"

  • Match Name
  • Club Name
  • Date
  • Region
  • Level
  • MD
  • RM
  • Stats Director

The bulk of that info is excluded from the report (Match Results)

It would probably be useful to include the top three items in that list...as part of the report.

Right now it's just name and date printed...

The WinMss Developer is usually pretty open to suggestions...why doesn't someone make this suggestion to him?

Quigley, I was referring to "match name" line in the result report. In my understanding it is a free form text in WinMSS and I am suggesting to make it more informative.

Well, the date and club and section are included right in the list of matches, so really don't need to be duplicated. You could just call it "Level I Match" if you don't want to give it a fancy name.

eg: www.ipsc-canada.org/results.html

hungrybeagle, maybe not the date, but if it would came from the WinMSS report one won't have to enter it again at the time of uploading to your or any other site.

BTW, your list of matches doesn't show the match level.

Well...you can recommend a naming convention...but I know people won't use it.

Making the top three items in that list (Match Name, Club Name and Date) mandatory fields (when you set up the match)...and including them in the report (Match Results) is the only way to ensure it is done properly...

That would work too. Though lot of people are using old versions of WinMSS and are hesitant to upgrade.
So, what channels to use to bring such recommendations to the people in charge?
Out of curiosity, why do you think people won't use it?

Out of curiosity, why do you think people won't use it?

I understand human nature ; )

Some people will do it all the time (a detail oriented person) some will do it some of the time...some never will.

If it's enforced through the system...it will be presented in the report the same way for every match...which makes it more usefull for people who want to pull our specific pieces of data (like for the apps you and HB are writing)
