Hi everyone. just bought and a 1940 Ishevsk. there is a crap load of symbols on it. i need some help iding some of them. are there sites to look at? i found one from mosin-nagant.net but its pretty limited in terms of symbols....

also ammo.... anyone know where i can get some?

Milsurp is kinda scarce atm. Not completely unavailable, but...scarce. Local gun shows are always worth a look. P&S militaria lists it as in stock but they don't ship ammo.

Prvi Partzan can be had for about 25.00ish/20 rnd box from your local gun store and the cases are reloadable.

I got tired of looking so I bought the Lee Anniversary loading set, 100 once-fired cases from a fella at the range and learned to roll my own. Cheaper that way anyhow.

It'll turn up eventually. Our intrepid Importers are always working to bring in product but there are so many government hoops to jump through...

Best bet is to go through our list of sponsors at the top and find the folks who stock 7.62x54r and keep an eye on their stock status. A few small batches have made it through but as it goes so fast it's not heavily advertised.

Also get clearance to the EE. Someone might be holding more than they need.

Andy yes, post pics. There are so many stamps - some known, more that aren't. Still fun to look.

A good site for learning what the symbols and markings mean is 7.62x54R.net - there are lots of photos of Soviet, Finn and other countries' Arsenal, stock and proof marks.

Thanks. Looked at that site.

here is a pic.

Looks like my old SVT-40. Most look like inspection and refurb marks, nothing Finnish or German that I am seeing, the Double "0" on the side is a proof mark for accuracy I believe. Interesting warping of the metal on the left side of the chamber reciver I must admit ;)
