Benelli just came out today with a new Legacy 28 GA. claiming the lightess semi auto in the world weighing in at 4.9lbs. Also, the came out with the Vinci Steady Grip.:D

I was reading too fast and though you said they are making a 28ga with steady grip. Imagine, the tactical solution to your quail needs.

The 28 gauge Benelli auto loader was introduced in Europe last year. Its Canada and United States introduction was at the 2010 Shot Show.On the Benelli site the 28 gauge that I looked at is listed at 5.2 pounds for the 24 inch barrel version.A 26 inch barrel is listed as well.

I'm sure Benelli wouldn't, ahem, revise its weight figure for these guns. Right? ;)

Factory weight specs should be taken with a grain or two of salt especially on a gun with a wood stock. Note on their website that the 24 and 26" guns are listed as weighing the same. Benelli has magically discovered a way to make a gun with a longer barrel but at precisely the same weight. Very creative. :)

I'll look forward to seeing one in the local stores but I expect it won't be cheap. And unless you've some experience a 5lb gun (oh pardon me, 4.9lbs) you might find it a difficult gun to shoot.

Good point.

Thanks for posting. The site I was looking at the 28 gauge Benelli on was their European site where it is known as the 28 gauge Benelli Rafaello Crio_On that site the weight is given in mertic and converts to 5.2 pounds.Interesting how they have the 24 inch and 26 inch versions listed as the same weight on the USA site.

Fort myself I like the lightest weight 28 gauge I can get. Most of my shooting is in the field and a light shotgun is great for carring. Also most of the woods I hunt in are thick so most of the time it is just a quick shot in the right direction before the game disappears in the woods.
