What 9mm for fun?

Looking at picking up a 9mm semi for ####s and giggles at the range. Don't want to break the bank but also would like decent quality fit & finish, reliability and accuracy. I'm more of a long gun kind of guy so don't know alot about these things. Obviously, it would be best to get something that fits my hands but what are some of your thoughts on what's available in the 1k and under range give or take.

Glock, Sig, H&K, STI, etc...

The usual culprits I guess, what are the pros and cons aside from just personal preferences? Anything to steer clear of, either particular mfg or model?
 
No Kidding, G17 fit your bill nicely, when I bought my CZ 75B, G17 is two hundred dallors more than CZ but now they are hundred dallors less than CZ. Fun gun to shoot, not as nice as CZ but the price is HARD to beat.

STI - pretty expensive
Glock - there is no finish they are plastic bricks (in my opinion)
Sig - cant get anything decent under $1200

Buy a CZ75B for $699 new, will last you 20,000 before replacing anything on it. All metal, no plastic crap here, blued finish eats up the oil and looks new even years later
 
Glock 17 or 22, you can get them brand new right now for $599. The pros, easy to maintain very few parts to clean and lube (field strips down to 4 main parts, frame, guide rod, barrel and slide assembly) The most simplistic and reliable pistol on the planet. The finish is clean and durable.

Overall alot of bang for the buck (no pun intended), thats easy to maintain, simplistic and durable. A no brainier IMO...
 
i've got my eyes on a G34 (and have for a while, even before committing to getting an RPAL). it's like a G17, but a slightly longer barrel / lighter trigger. and not much more $ than the G17.
 
Glock 17 or Smith & Wesson M&P 9. both great guns and both can be had for under $700. My personal preference is the M&P. Good shooter, cheap enough spare mags and the interchangeable backstraps make it fit any hand like a glove.
 
It's nice when you can get one that shoots well in your hands. How far is Beaumont away from the big city where you can hit up the Rent-A-Gun range?

Do your local clubs have any handgun competitions? If they do then perhaps look at getting involved in them. Shooting handguns is far more fun when there's a guy with a timer hovering just over your shoulder... :D Mostly because then you're shooting at something that will react too. Steel gongs or fallers are way more fun then idly punching holes in paper.
 
It all comes down to what feels right in your hand. What fits like a glove for one is a brick for the next shooter. Unless you want to get into serious competition a Norinco clone of the Sig is probably all you will ever need.
 
There was a Browning HP MkIII 9mm on the EE a couple days ago for $550.

IMHO, that would've fit the bill perfectly for the topic of this thread.

If it's just for ####s and giggles then get whatever gives you that tingely sensation down south. Hell, get something totally over the top. Something gold plated,,,,, with fur grips,,,,,and a giant red dot,,,,,gigidy, gigidy,gigidy.
 
STI GP6, awesome reset, and very accurate, if you are going for a Tupperware gun, or maybe the new CZ Duty, I think I might try one of the Duty's myself.

Had a Glock, no real complaints, other than the trigger, and I wasn't very good at shooting it....I'll probably get another one in .45 or 10mm to keep in the safe.
 
If your reloading I vote .44 magnum. I just bought one after shooting 9mm, 45, and 38/357. If your reloading you can practically do anything with it. Light plinkers to heavy hitters. This gun is the most fun I've had with a handgun yet. Oh yeah its a revolver. Duh. Ruger Redhawk. But just so you know my other handguns a glock 17.
 
If you want a modern plastic 9mm then i'd second the STI GP6. If you want cheap fun then look at a surplus Walther P1 or P38 - think that tradex has one model or the other for $300 and they are in near new shape (tradex VG = most folk's EXC to NEW). For a little bit more, a norc NP29 1911 clone is an excellent choice, if you can find one...
