Yes, it is heavy. But not heavy enough to sway off target. It took a litle tweaking the rear sight, but that was all too easy. You can adjust windage and elevation on this gun. Within 10 shots, I had her dialed in.
I was suprised with the recoil. Not much more than my 9mm. I expected more.
I sent 75 rounds of Sellier and Bellot to their graves today. Not one single problem. Fed and tossed great with every round.
The things that I don't like about the pistol are:
1. Magazines. You're going to pay 60 bucks for a couple spare mags. Why? Because you're Canadian. Americans can order them directly from Hi Point for $18 SHIPPED
2. Canadian mark up. Hi Point website lists them for $186.00USD
3. Quite possibly the hardest hit on this 250.00 toy. Hi Point offers a no questions asked lifetime warranty. Did I mention that only applies if you live in the states? At least Kodiak Outfitters has most of the parts anyone would need in stock.
Summed up....
The Hi Point JHP .45ACP gets my seal of approval regarding price, trigger feel and accuracy. You want a .45 and don't have big bucks kicking around? Get one of these while you can.

I must say that is the FUGLIEST handgun I've ever seen.
But if it goes bang every time you squeeze the trigger, then its a good one!!

Sorry, I have been around a while and am used to people whining about the fact they live in Canada and that the dealers up here need to eat too. Enjoy the Hi-Point, it's not my kind of gun but I like anything that isn't Chinese that remains affordable.

You almost can't compare the two. My Norinco is a 9mm
The Hi Point is a .45acp
The biggest difference is that the Hi Point is a blow back action. Totally different operation of the gun.
However, in regards to quality, I believe that Hi Point wins (so far). Everything is smooth and solid. Suprisingly good trigger feel. Rear sight is easily adjusted or changed out to the ghost ring that comes with it. Mag releases alot easier... I could keep going. Some say its ugly. Some don't like it due to the price. But I am a new Hi Point fan.

I gotta agree with Morley.
I have a Hi Point in 40 and Norincos in 22, 9mm and 45 and the Hi Point wins hands down in smoothness, overall feel, etc. The adjustable sight at that price is fantastic.
Now, if you don't like plastic and the fugly look, so be it but here we have a North American manufacturer providing a decent product at a very decent price and we crap all over it.
Love my Norincos too, but not having to clean off a ton of Norincoil off the Hi Point before I could shoot is a very nice benefit.

Checkout Peter's mods to these pistols. He made his quite a bit nicer looking and increased the functionality. I personally wouldn't own one, but only as I already have a Glock, so to get something heavier and uglier to do the same thing isn't a priority, if I were just getting started, I'd probably get one.
As for the Chinese invasion, all they'd need to do is call in their US debts, and North America is sunk. We barely manufacture anything in North America anymore, anything a North American can do, the Chinese can do cheaper and usually faster. Let's all just enjoy our nice things while they still let us have them.

This guy, right here. Probably more has posts about them, this took 15 seconds of searching, just be sure and search over the last 3 years to catch everything. I'm sure he'd take a PM if you had any questions, seems like a good guy from anything I've seen.

Finances permitting, my next handgun will be the Hi-Point in .45
I looked over hundreds of posts in multiple forums, and viewed numerous videos on YouTube trying to get a consumer opinion of these. What I found is that the majority of people with negative opinions never actually fired one, or fired one very little. There were a few actual owners that didn't seem pleased (some for good reason) with their hi-points. Imagine ordering a .45 and getting a .40 with a .45 slide. Of course that would piss me off, but luckily it was an American who had it replaced in a few weeks. A lot of the negative comments were basically useless due to fact that the general message was don't buy cheap guns (as if expensive makes don't have issues).
I also found that the slides are made of ZAMAK, which is basically a zinc/aluminum alloy. Some folks think this is bad, but research indicated that this has no bearing on performance or strength, as the crucial parts of the gun are either reinforced or made of steel.
Some users moaned about the fact that the magazines are only 9 round capacity. As a 1911A1 owner, I don't find this an issue. Some other nay sayers were also quick to refer to this gun as a Saturday Night Special, referring it to a gangsta' gun. Sure, no nice guns are used by bangers.
Many users were surprised to find how nice the trigger was for a $250 gun. Another big perk was the adjustable rear sight. Numerous users were also very surprised at the guns accuracy.

I had one in .40S&W and it performed flawlesly. If you think it looks ugly you should see it with the mag in. The only reason I sold it was the weight and then I bought a Desert Eagle .357 and have to do some weight lifting to beef up my sagging muscles just to hold this one on target. As far as trusting the High Point with my life I would, absolutely no funcioning problems, just ugly.
Finances permitting, you'll buy a hi-point? Just buy it already, blame it on me. It's not like you gotta sell a kidney to afford a hi-point. Of course affording to shoot 45 is another matter. All that I'll say about that is, I hope you reload.
Of all of Peter's Hi-point mods, the best one IMHO, is the magazine base removal. I believe he lost 1 round capacity, but oh, that Magazine base, it's half the hi-point ugly right there. Lose that, and you're almost talking a presentable firearm.
