So with the unveiling of the MR556A1 from HK when are they coming in/who is bringing them?.The upper is interchangable with any AR15 lower,so yeah I'll take an upper.

I was told by the HK rep that the distance between the pins are the same in the US version - what it is different is the pin itself. Now they need to be punched out. The rifle was targeted towards the "target crowd" - HK has decided that HK223/556 will be the same everywhere in the world.

The upper and lower receivers ( the aluminum) parts are made in the US. The barrel blank as well as all the guts (gas system and bolt group) are imported from Germany.

What I read(not from HK), was that the pin is the standard size, it uses a smaller push-pin inside the regular pin like on a Swiss Arms. That makes it look smaller.

As I said, I didn't get that from HK though, so I could be wrong.

My understanding is the barrels are being finished and rails supplied by Daniel Defense. The rest of the gun is HK GmbH and Wilcox.

Us getting European(I think Italian market) guns with the offset pins is the price to pay for getting things earlier than the USA, as well as State Department rules.

I'd be interested in a US market gun or just the upper for sure though.

I should qualify that - I asked point blank if the HK556 upper will fit on AR15 lower. The answer is no - the pin distance of the HK556 is the same as HK223 in Germany, which is different from the regular AR15.

So everyone on the usa forums has been misled when they got info that it does use standard pin locations and will drop on ar lowers?

I don't know. People are saying different things about the same guns that were displayed at SHOT. Maybe different reps have been saying different things. Here's a picture that we took at the HK booth with a closeup of the pins. You need a punch to push out the pins.

Even if the hole spacing is standard AR, I doubt that HK will sell the uppers on their own.

The punch-out pins are what I read about too. I think that is the problem, different reps are giving out different info.

But on another site, I thought I saw that the uppers are going to be released on their own.....

My bet is that the US corporate wants one thing, but HK Germany doesn't want to change it worldwide configuration.

They will have to figure out their internal politics.

So much misinformation. I bet US corporate is telling them flat out that they will lose huge sales not making these things standard.

I surely do hope an AR compatible 556 upper will be available - one with a lighter barrel as well. The one at SHOT ( and the German version) are still heavy as hell. It is a shame that HK won't produce a regular lower - because their lower and trigger groups are the best I have ever seen and experienced.

The HK rep we talked to was pretty passionate about the 416 - he kept saying he used one in combat and he will not go back to a regular AR.

The sign says it will be interchangable with other AR lowers,so what is the story here?

Reaper, you know what? I think this was on the other side of the display for the MR556 and MR762 that we were looking at! Why didn't the rep show us these guns on the other side when we asked about the upper compatibility? I thought that the guns on both sides were just copies of the same thing.
