Does anyone have the P30 with the extended barrel. I am trying to decide if I go for the p30 or p30l. Anyone have any insights on the two?

Those are pretty new to the market (P30 with threaded barrel) so I don't know how much response you will get. But I have owned a P30L (V3) and am in the process of buying another (V1) and I would honestly recommend the "L" over the shorter gun.

Keep in mind that this is just my opinion, but I find the extended barrel to be quite hideous looking. And seeing as the P30L is only about 2/10 of an inch linger than the extended barrel, it's basically the same gun but better looking :D and with a slightly longer sight radius.

If you get the chance, go to P&D (edit: oops sorry, I see you are in ON) and handle them both and see if one balances or feels better to you. Either way they are great guns and you would not be making a mistake buying either!

Oh also, the version with the threaded barrel has higher profile sights for use when the gun is fitted with a silencer. Not sure if that matters to you, but I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for the response. I talked to P and D and I am waiting for the p30L. I just wanted to know if the p30 was better.
Does anyone know who has the P30L in stock?

P&D has one listed on their website and Wolverine definitely has some in stock. Are you leaning toward the traditional SA/DA with decocker (V3) or the DAO (V1) that uses HK's proprietary LEM trigger?

Personnally, the I would get the threated barrel unless you actually want to mount a 12X scope on your P30L. Yes it is that long.

No it's not. It is 1/2 inch longer.... It's still fairly short compared to many "full size" pistols. and the P30 with the threaded barrel is the same lenght overall... But to each his own, I guess. The simple solution is to buy both and see which one you like shooting the best!

What trigger is better. I was leaning toward the da/sa but does anyone have thoughts on the LEM trigger.

I guess it depends on what kind of shooting that you plan to do and what your preferences are. I have owned both and I can definitely say that I prefer the V1 (DAO with LEM trigger) over the V3 (SA/DA). The reset on the LEM is actually quite short and the trigger breaks at a very reasonable 4.5 lbs.

What I like best is the consistent trigger pull from the first shot onward. HK's DA trigger pull is hideous at best and I never could quite get used to it. But that's just me, YMMV of course.

Another option, if you're not in a hurry, is to wait for a bit until the new P30S and P30LS hit the market up here in Canada. They are the same guns as the V3 (DA/SA) but have the addition of a thumb safety, so you can have the gun "cocked & locked" with the safety on and not have to worry about the long heavy DA trigger pull...

Does anyone know if they made a p30ls yet? I know the p30s were announced at the Shot Show but I have not heard of thr p30ls other than the picture of it on HK's website..

I bought a P30L with the LEM trigger for my wife, she loves it but I am a glock shooter. The LEM Reset is a fair bit longer than the glock, but not that bad acctually. I have borrowed her P30L for a few matches and have been quite impressed with the gun, the only time I noticed the length of reset was during dry fire, during matches it was bearly noticeable.

It has been a long time since I have fired a Glock, so I won't comment on the difference as my memory is fuzzy... BUt I will say a quick blurb about dry firing an HK with LEM trigger:

The trigger can only be properly reset when the slide moves because the movement of the slide semi-cocks the striker. If you are dry firing a LEM trigger with our racking the slide (just enough to reset the striker) then you will notice a much longer reset as the gun is in more of a traditional double action type of mode. If that makes sense at all... That is probably why you don't notice the difference in reset when you are shooting and you do when dry firing. ?

Yes I am aware of this, the difference between the 4.5lb pull and the 22lb is difficult to miss......;)

I don't own a P30 but I have two P2000's. One with the SA/DA and the other with the LEM. I much prefer the SA/DA. I got the LEM from Wolverine and I find the trigger pull way too light and too long. The Glock trigger is much better in my opinion. Shorter and a little harder.
