Sorry if this is a stupid question but can you use 30 06 brass for a 270 by resizing it with a standard full length sizing die?

not only can you use them, but in a pinch you can sometimes use a270 in a30/06 depending on how tight your chamber is i would say 85% to 90% will chamber ,but you cannot shoot a 30/06 in a 270 with out jamming the bullet into the case very dangerous and a good reason to stay away from having 30/06,280,270 in same house reciepe for disaster!!

You would need a ball peen hammer to chamber a 30-06 or 280 round in a 270. If you are stupid enough to try it you probably deserve to own a blown-up rifle.

No you guys. Ralphy wants to know if you can just neck .30-06 brass down for use in a .270 Winchester. From what I've been told, yes. But you will likely need to turn the necks down, and maybe do some trimming. If you are in a pinch for brass, that would do. Use the Redding sizing wax for any necking down, and go slowly.

However, I have seen a Remington 7600 pump in .270 that, in the heat of battle had a magazine full of .308 put in place and fired one round. Nobody got hurt, but the rifle went for parts. It held together, but it feels funny to cycle the action. All's I had to say was "Better you than me."

Don't complicate life. The answer is yes. I have done it many times. There is no need for any special lube, simply lube the .30-06 cases as per normal full length size and run them through the .270 full length sizing die. No neck turning required, unless you have a special custom chamber that requires it (check before you do a hundred!). Naturally you will want to trim the cases, at some point, but it is not an immediate need.
