Sks laminated

hi every one, i just my first new sks today.
It's a russian sks with laminates stock.

But i see that the wood about the gas tube is not laminateD. WHY??

Do you have this too??

Mis-match ?

My SKS is hardwood and both pieces match though the stock went through refurbishment at one point.

Take a picture, it often is an aid in answering questions like this.
 
Probably more of them mis-matched then there are matched. These are refurbs so often times the time was not taken to match the handguard to the gun. I've had hardwood stocks with laminate handguards also.
 
I have a laminate with a mismatched handguard also the serial numbers match so i assume they just threw it together and didn't care about it when it was refurbished.
 
My 1952 came with a laminated hand guard,

guess I was lucky. :D

I had the exact same problem!

You can always try to find a laminated handguard and replace wood only portion of the handguard if you are really concerned about the appearance, and keeping your original gas tube. It's a bit of a PITA to get the pin out, not to mention that not all the laminated stocks have the same colouring - I had to strip and stain mine to get the colour to match the stock on my 56 Tula (I'm not a bubba, but a deep red handguard with a blonde/orange laminate stock sticks out like a sore thumb).
If you worried about damaging the gas tube, you can always purchase a spare complete gas tube assembly from any number of sources, but take note that it may require some fitting to work with your rifle.

Your first step would be to post an add in the EE under Exchange of Parts and Bits with a brief description of what your looking for

I think this explains best why they mostly come with the amber gas tube. During the refurb process they would avoid labour intensive procedures that did nothing in terms of functionality. And by the looks of the elegant pinning that was done, these rifles were meant to be workhorses.

Just wanted to say that Walnut stock is possible to find, it is rare. I had a few of those. Very good looking one and durable. I had about 5 in my last shipment. Will look for one in the next shipment and will post some pics of that.

Small info for all CGN in the time of after war wood was not as widely available. Cherry and Walnut was used as substitute for for fir lumber. Country was rebuilding itself and fir was used for construction purposes. There is quiet a few samples available on the market, but you have to look to find Cherry or Walnut ones. Has to be all matching numbers to have that stock. Majority ###X are not Walnut or Cherry, but it is possible.
