hey everyone,

i'm kinda curious as to how many of us use a 35 caliber rifle for big game hunting. if you have any good hunting stories or good shooting stories with this caliber, post em on here so we can all know of them. as of the present i use my fathers marlin 336 in .35 remington for everything from moose to deer. i've even shot a couple of grouse with it. in the head of course haha. pretty much my whole family uses these rifles so anyway if u use one, post it and what u've killed with it please. most people i know don't use this type of rifle because they say it's too "short range" yet most of the shots i hear of are under 100 yards. especially for moose and bear it's usualy less than 50 so anyway let me know. later

I used one for a very short while, but took a sheep, a moose and a couple of deer does with it..

200 yrds or so and your doing alright. Inside of that, goodnight Irene!

I've got a couple .358's and love them.Win 88 in .358 x 2 and a Win 100 built into a .358.No probs up to 200 yrds for me but where I hunt it's usually bout 50 yrds max and they just fall over when hit !!!!

I have had a Rem 700 in 35 Whelan, with hand loads and 225 sierra very nice groups. Sold it and bought a Winchester 94 in 356 win. with 200 gr round nose and peep sights 1 1/2" groups at 100 yds. Shot a 8 point at 75 yds DRT. I wouldn't feel under armed for anything except grizzly inside 250 yards. The 35 is the most under-rated caliber in my opinion.

I've got a Savage 170 pump in 35 Rem topped with a Savage 2.5X scope with post and crosshair. I only take it with me on the last day of deer when we push all the small chunks of trees in the fields for deer. It's quick and light.

Got a 99R in 358 wearing a Redfiled 2-7X lo pro that comes to the stand with me every now and then to. Nice recoil due to the weight of the heavy stock on the R's.

I just picked up a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem at the end of last season and the only thing that I have killed with it was paper. I mounted a Weaver 2 1/2X scope and sighted it in at 100 yards which is about as far as I am likely to get a shot where I hunt. With Remington 200 grn factory ammo I am getting 2" groups.

This year I plan to work up some small game loads with pistol bullets then work on a cast bullet load.

I used a 35 Whelan for years,Killed Elk,Moose and Bears with it.I used a 250 gr handload @ 2500 fps.I found it to be a pure hunting caliber.

I've got a .35 Whelen. I seldom use it anymore, even though at bush ranges it hits like a hammer. The trouble is, outside of the bush I'm far more interested in calibers doing 3500 fps than 2500.

I have a few medium 35s. They're my favorites after 6.5x55. Hard to beat for flexibility and power without magnum recoil. From grouse to moose is right. If you carry a Marlin 35 Rem with a couple of factory loads in the magazine and a couple of light handloads in your pocket you can pop small game like rabbit or grouse while out for moose or deer. Best carry is a Model 81 BLR in 358Win though sneaking handloads into the clip is not quite so handy. Got a 35 Whelen on a mauser 98 action which can be handloaded up and down too. But the same rate of rifling twist that gives it that flexibility makes it not so good with bullets heavier than the factory 250 grainers. So I've been fooling around with 9.3s launching 285 and 300 grain bullets looking for what was lost with the Whelen. .

I have used my Winchester mod.95 in .35 Win. cal in the past. It,s a very hard hitting and quite accurate old gun. The 35 Win. was used as a light African cal. in it's day. And comfortable to shoot too. It should be brought out of retirement again.

Nope never owned one... but if I did it would have been a 358 Norma Mag because I was shooting a 308 NM for appr 20 years and they use the same brass.

35s - I use a few - 35Rem, 356Win, 358Win, 35Whelen, 35 Whelen Ackley, 350 Remington Magnum, and 350 WSM. They work very well on deer on up. Just like Dan says,
Guns go bang, critters fall down.

I have and hunted with a 358 Norma for 35 Years,Mine is built on a 1903 A3 springfield. All i can say is it works very well and has put a lot of meat in the freezer.
