My First and ONLY Rifle -- Pictures Page 1/20/25 -- Range Review Page 28 --

There's tons of crown in ontario to shoot on. Lots about 4-6 hours north. The crown land map of ontario online is somewhat confusing and a hard copy from the MNR should be bought. Im sure they would point you in the right direction for finding the closest spot.

I don't shoot with a rear bag, so I don't know how applicable these techniques are to me.

May I suggest you watch a couple youtube videos, made by a professional :)

"Bi-pods don't hop"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjG1JZxiui0&feature=channel
"Loading the bipod"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZcNAq8eOGo&feature=channel
"Shooting Moving Chaos"

I have talked with him extensively, he is very well known in many a community, and those first couple videos are actually part of a training tool you can sign up for, although I haven't yet.

But if you watch the videos carefully you can see that he does not lose his target and he can easily follow up the shot (also the bipod moves against him, not to the left or right and no "up" aka hopping). For the first video though, make sure you watch until the end, where he does it on a hard deck and no silencer :)

SCOPE UPDATE:
FEDEX is estimating delivery to be TOMORROW. If this is true, then WOO :D

Thanks,
- Koshy

Yea, but might as well go to boarden if thats the case :p Unless you want to camp there and shoot whenever :p

Rear bags are mainly for steadying the rifle, or raising and lowering the crosshairs by minuet amounts.
At least as far as I know :)

Scope Update: New delivery date for Scope is Feb 1st... soooo Monday :D

Thanks,

Koshy, thanks for posting those YouTube videos. The shooter shows an an impressive rate of fire, and extremely solid control of the rifle - most impressive to watch. And if they didn't somehow "cheat" on the filming of it, the 100m 1/2" 5-shot group that he fired at the end of the video, at that cadence, is fantastic.

One thing that I noticed is that the shooter seemed to have an extremely "straight" orientation (of his body) to the rifle. Also, he seemed to have the butt tucked to his shoulder quite close to his neck, rather than farther out.

Still though, if you watch carefully, you will see his bipod legs move back about 3/4" every time he fires a shot. On a smooth surface such as the deck he was firing from, that does not cause a hop. But firing from grass, that would typically cause the bipod to hop up and out of position - at least that's been my experience, I have always found it necessary to re-set-up after every shot. I've only ever used a Harris bipod, I imagine that one of the "ski-type" bipods (e.g. Rempel), or one of the bipods with recoil slides, or one of the fancy feet (Versa Pod), or spiked feet, could probably help this greatly.

The sideways movement and re-tracking the target is especially obvious from the second shooter.

What's ur point? I'm saying I don't use 'em, so the techniques don't really apply

My point is, even in not using a rear bag you should be able to employ this technique.

No problem, and yes I noticed it moves "back" but note, as he even says in the video, it is with the shooter and not a hop to the left or right... therefor you should still have a sight picture, and still be able to continue your fire. Honestly I'm not sure how it will handle in grass... and yes I did notice that they line up with the rifle rather then to the side. And no the video is not doctored, these are very serious guys that don't need to play tricks with a camera. I have seen videos where they don't edit it to save time because some people would claim they are cheating.

When talking to him, he said all bipods (if not broken) are capable of what he accomplished even though he is using an Atlas (because he likes the profile, weight and features over the others).

Scope Update:
Now Fedex says Feb. 2nd booo

Thanks,

Your First Born!

Koshy - from all of the great images, this obviously is your "First Born!"

Congratulations from a ggdad!

I share your joy in this rifle, knowing that I will never again experience the euphoria that you feel, I envy you, your youth, for the years ahead of you. Enjoy them to the fullest, and FIGHT LIKE HELL for your rights as a law abiding Canadian to uphold these rights, "the torch" and all of that...

Thanks, and I will :)

Congratulations on being a ggdad, that is an accomplishment in itself!

Seemed like you were saying what a rear bag was for.

Speaking of which, how old are you, Koshy? I got my first rifle at 25...

Well I was saying what a rear bag was for, but it shouldn't have an effect on your ability to get non hops from your bipod.

I got my first rifle at 23...

Scope Update:

Scope is back! And damn does it ever sound amazing! Found a Youtube video that represents what it sounds like quite well. The "clicks" are sooooo crisp now, and you would NEVER miss the 1 mil/moa marks now... totally impossible... I can easily go up and down the ranges without looking at it once and know exactly where I am :)

Here is a youtube video to show what it sounds like (and looks):

I've taken some pictures I just have to resize I will upload them later.

Thanks,
- Koshy

The scope looks well executed. I quite like the "second turn" indicator.

Is it 15 minutes per knob rotation, or 15 mils?

Does the windage knob have a single turn in each direction from its central zero point? Does it have a similarly foolproof way to always return to zero (and not be one turn out)?

Mine is 15 mils (is actually like 14.3) for the first rotation, and is another 12 in the second rotation... equaling a total of 27 mils for elevation (117 moa)!

Yes I like the indicator as well, very original :)

Windage knob is single turn, +/- 8 mils (55 moa) from central zero.

Mine is the 3-15x50 model, in the video it was 5-25x56.

Well... I think my bad luck strikes again.... waiting on a call back from Richard because I don't think the scope is able to mount properly in the alphamount....

Of course TR's goes in smooth as butter... but me? No.... I couldn't be so fortunate lol....

It is a shame to, because the scope/mount was looking so nice on the rifle =/

Thanks,
- Koshy

Crazy all the little problems you've had, and its only a factory build. Imagine following this luck trend through a custom build? Yikes.
But I guess these are the complications you run into when using cutting edge gear.

I don't think it has to do with that :p

Versa-pod is nothing special, and Canada Post is nothing special, yet still managed to lose my package or not track it properly, so now the inquiry into my package will take up to 10 business days -.-

Scope was a simple error in metalurgy for little clickers worth all of like $5.

And not sure what to say about the mount =/ I'll wait and see what Richard has to say :p But of course I cannot get a hold of him, because thats my luck :D

Throw in Shotshow and boooo! :(

Thanks,
- Koshy

Well Richard is out of town until Friday... only I would have this kind of luck hahaha :D

Ah well, I'm sure when all is said and done it will be worth it, because after seeing TR11's mounted scope, I cannot wait to mount mine :)

Thanks,
- Koshy
