.45 ACP powder?

I don't reload for pistol but I use a lot of powders listed above for Shotgun target loads. Has anyone tried Green Dot? I find in Max loads it recoils less and is very clean burning.

i haven't tried it, but i do have a listing- 230 grain rn jacket,4.8 bottom, 5.3 top- that's the ONLY listing i have with ANY bullet-772-842 out of a 5 inch colt gov't- it has been my experience that shotgun powders perform somewhat differently in pistol cases- the much vaunted unique, for example is far too smoky for my tastes, yet it's ok in shotgun

That's interesting. Thanks

which of those powders would be considered the cleanest burning? I saw somewhere one of the vv powders were good, but I find them pretty dirty and don't like that. Real dirty. Oh I forgot, titegroup, blue dot those work pretty good.

I use HS6 with great results.
I beleive its bassically 231 powder?
Also Titegroup works very well.

hp38 is 231 equiv- hs6 is roughly what used to be the old 540 ww or whatever- now winchester has a logic to the numbering system with the lower numbers being faster, so i would suspect hs6 to be somewhat slower than 231- i don't have it listed as a suitable powder in my manual, but the nomenclature on the hogdon site lists it as suitable for 10mm and a bunch of others- not every powder is listed in every book

i've used it for years - the trick is to use near maximum loads- there are guys, like john shaw, that swear by the stuff- if he uses it, it's good enuff for me to duplicate his loads- i use it for 9, 45, 44special-

okay so what would a max load be for a 230gr, im going to finish off a can of win 231 so i am little hesitant to mess around with "max loads" with my new pistol???

I still use 231 5.5 grains under 200 lswc a little dirty but very accurate and consistant but it is temp sensitive and will shoot slow (and dirty) if its cold.

Your right, i had to go and look at the tag on my dedicated
powder dispensor for .45acp.
I use 5.5 grains of HP38 under a home casted 200 grain
semi wad cutter bullet.
Very accurate in my colt 1991a1.
Good IDPA load.
Knocks down the steal plates with authority.
