Just purchased a G17 from a fellow CGN'er and was wondering if you Glock guys have any Tactical light recommendations. Don't need an integral laser but if the price is right I would consider it. Looking to spend ~$200

Thanks
Don

The Surefire X300. You can get it from Dave's Surplus, The Shooting Edge, or Brownells.

You won't regret it.

I literally just bought a Surefire X300 from Warriors and Wonders, He sold it to me for $249 GST & Shipping Inc. The cheapest price out there right now.

I went with the Surefire for a few reasons. Brand recognition, I think Surefire as a company has proven themselves reputation wise and product wise. I also like the look of the X300 more, it's streamline and clean. I'm not a fan of the big screw head that sticks out on the TRL-1. The clamping system on the X300 seems more simplistic and clean. Of course these are just my opinions.

It also seems like the number one choice for LEO, Military and the likes, choose Surefire... If you want simply the best, go with Surefire.

I originally tried ordering this light from Brownell's but they denied the order because of, "Carrier Restrictions" Apparently the light can only be shipped UPS ground because of the lithium batteries. Apparently theres no UPS ground service available to Canada from Brownells....

Yup.

Been there, done that.

If you ask them nicely Brownells will remove the batteries from the package (and ship it without the batteries).

Oh man, I must have caught Chandra on a bad day, good to know for next time though... Thanks ;)

I have used the Glock brand lights...(last one came from Questar I think) and they're only about $130 new. They are great.

The problem with the Glock lights is there old incandescent bulb technology, not LED... I have also herd of guys not happy with the size, it takes over the gun apperantly... If you're stuck in that price range, I'd take the TRL-1 over the Glock version...

I just bought a brand new one for basically the same price...

Oh I forgot, I wanted to ask about the TRL-3 the more compact slimmer version. For those of you that know "Nutnfancy" He did a review on this light and raves about it... As a $75 alternative, it does sound interesting. The only down fall I see is it has a polymer body and is not fully sealed... Anyone have any experience with this light, TDC?

Yes, I think they use a XENON bulb...are the new LED lights comparable in brighness?

My experience with these pistol mounted lights convinced me that
as a generalisation,
for my old tired LAZERED eye balls any way

INSIDE a room,
an LED is a better light ...
brighter, cooler, whiter spectrum, longer lasting, more durable.

However,
out in the brush,
where the target may be obscured by foilage,
for me an LED does NOT penetrate as well as the old incandescent bulbs.
With the LEDs, in brush,
you get more of a 2D view, rather than a 3D view.

That being said, all my EDC hand held flashlights are CREE Q5 LEDS. These are great. Last week, while walking the dog and shining one of my EDC flash lights on him to illuminate him from oncoming traffic, I had a car stop for me, around a switchback, because he thought there was another vehicle coming around the tight corner.

He rolled down his window to tell me this, and could not believe my little pocket flash light could put out that much of a beam.

I use an old incandescent Streamlight M3 on my Glock. Personally, I much prefer the quick release / snap on mount of this model over the types that rely on tightening a screw, or permanently mounting the light to the weapon. I also have practiced the Harries method of holding a pistol and a hand held flashlight at the same time.

IMHO, a weapon light should be a SUPPLEMENT to your EDC flashlight. If all you have is a weapon mounted light, and it doesn't come off and on quickly and easily,
you could easily get in the rather bad habit of illuminating things that go bump in the night,
WITH A POSSIBLY LOADED FIREARM aimed at ...
whatever?

Not every situation that calls for light, calls for a loaded firearm pointed that way as well,
and LEGALLY,
pointing a flash light at some one is much different than pointing a weapon.

free opinions on the internet are often worth much less than you paid for them,
