Building AK-47 furnature for an 858.

If you can do a forehand grip like this one, I'm interrested to buy a kit!

Any new developments ?

Finishing my last week helping out a friend's company with some late autocad drafting, then I will be full steam ahead on this.

Think you can build those thumbhole and romanian forends?

Looking into it. Will keep you updated.

I'm just wondering, how what is the change in the weight of the gun with the wood set? Anything worth considering?

It is a bit heavier in the stock due to it being solid hardwood, but everything still seems balanced nicely. The front end is still very close to the original weight.

It's a pretty easy modification to the handle.. I've made several that shape for left-side carriers from scratch. It'd be a lot easier modding the existing right side handle.

Shoot me your carrier and I'll do it at no charge, just cover shipping, It'd look good with your AK wood.

You'll have it back in a day or two.

and a free bump.

*WANT!*

Oh, but one little thing...

The slots between the handguards, should be rounded slightly. Not too much, just a little.

Update.

Finally got to bring it to the range. I really can not believe that it has taken me this long, but I have been busy bringing new shooters out, getting my black badge, etc.

Overall, everything held up very well through the 250 rounds I fired. The pistol grip and handguard assembly were perfectly solid. I need to do a few small tweaks to the design of the stock, as it twisted roughly 1/32" side to side even with the stock bolt snug. It was rock solid in every other way, but needs support from twisting, which the 'furrule' normally provides, but I have as such been unable to source them from any of our sponsors or members. For now I will tweak without it, and if I can get my hands on one, I will build a version for the furrule if it is practical/ necessary.

I will most likely build another stock with a wooden tab to fit in the slot at the back of the reciever at the bottom to prevent any torquing. At least some progress is being made. I have some spare time so I am going to start on that this week.

Just keeping you updated.

Here is a new photo I snapped tonight.

I've been watching this thread with interest and I'm very impressed with the work. I echo Paul Morrison's request though for a bit of improvement on the vent holes, and something else I'm not sure if anyone's brought up is the stock droop. I would prefer a level cheek platform as on this AKM:

Kevin,
That wood looks really nice, good job!

I'm not sure if it's just me, but the angle of the butt looks a bit "off" to me. If the angle where the butt joins the receiver was a few degrees less it would raise the top of the butt up a bit an make it more "right".
