22 mag conversion

Because they use a .22 Magnum barrel?
I suspect that there is enough variation in barrel dimensions that it may be hard to generalize.
Some European .22lr barrels have bore dimensions that are tight by SAAMI .22lr standards.

check out Pacific Tool&Gauge for a reamer cheaper than brownells, never had any problems with them. and good quality supplies. good luck and have fun with your project.

Apparently the CZ .22 Hornet barrels are running a .223 diameter too. Read somewhere that their .223 barrels were too, but cannot find the source right now.

I had one of those Ruger Single six convertibles back before it would have ever occured to me to measure the bore to see what they did.

The other possibility is that the front end of the cylinder and the forcing cone, pretty much make the bullet fit the barrel.

A Martini action will handle a .223, I've been told by guys that do it. .22Mag down a .223 bore would be a cake-walk.

Dunno that I'd care to be around a Cooey so done, though.

Cheers

.223 was the Hornet spec. for years. Hornet bullets are still available in .223 and .224.
When Lakefield started making their .22 Magnums, they added a deflecting flange to the back of the bolt, against the possibility of gas resulting from a blown case.
I've seen Cooey single shots with bolt handles broken off, not in magnum.
There are .22lr actions which are double lugged. Better choice than a bolt handle single.

why reaming? Remington 597 22lr and wmr apparently share the same receiver. You'd need wmr barrel and trigger group with magazine. Maybe a little expensive as compared to cost of reamer but conversion will be reversible.

Well i'm getting mixed answers about converting the cooey 75 to a magnum. Im sure it can be done with a beefier action but until someone with first hand experience using a cooey comes forward, i'll put the project on hold.

Okay, if the barrel of a .22 magnum is different than a .22LR and it would not be safe to fire a .22 magnum through a .22LR barrel, please explain to me why many revolver manufacturers (ruger among them) have produced or currently produce revolvers that shoot .22 magnum as well as .22LR by changing nothing but the cylinder.
the barrel on the ruger single six is 224, if you go to rimfirecentral they use to
have quite a bit of info on it. thats why most single six's are more accurate with the 22 mag cylinder installed.

Colt only made 22 rimfire barrels when they started to make the model 53 22 Jet Revolver and they never made a true 224 barrell for the handgun and never had a problem in squeezing down the 224 bullets to the rimfire barrell bores, just an observation. I am also looking to build a 22 mag, might use an old BRNO action and build a single shot as I perfer them, Dale in T-Bay;)
