Hi, I saw a good deal on a Bolt action rifle in 17 HM2, I know it's been on the decline since a bit, and rifle makers have dropped them from lines.
But it should be a great squirrel rifle where shots range from 10y to 80y in the maple grove after the leaves have fallen.
My concern is ammo availability.
Anyone know where they stock 17 HM2 ammo?
Do you think I'm making a bad decision looking at that rifle?

p.s.: I have a 17 HMR, but with the ammo at $20 a box and the greater shot reports, I find it a bit 'overgun' for squirrels; and the 22lr have a too big arcing trajectory for the 10y-80y range squirrel sized target IMHO.

Thanks for your inputs.

.17 HM2 is excellent

Sounds like a .17HM2 is just what you need. Take the deal, there is a steady demand for ammo for those who have discovered this calibre, so I think the supply will continue to be fed, while the guns will get harder to find.

And, if you decide not to get it, give me the details, I would be interested.

Where I buy ammo HM2 and HMR prices are so similar. The difference more for HMR is only a dollar, so I am willing to pay a dollar more for being able to have excellent accuracy at longer distances. Plus there squirrels so I doubt your eating them, let the HMR turn them inside out. HM2 is not so common, I personally am happy with .22LR and .17HMR.

both cabela's and wholesale sports have .17M2 rounds in stock-here the price for HMR is over double what it is for M2-I have both and shoot the M2 tons more--I just can't justify the extra HMR price for gophers but am willing to spend more for the M2 then my .22 for the fun factor ( get a good spot and they don't know where the heck the rounds are coming from when you're over 100m away):dancingbanana:

If your paying only a dollar less for 17hm2 your either getting a real good deal on 17hmr or getting ripped off for 17hm2.

There is dealers online selling it for around $6/box for Eley.

The price of ammunition was the main reason that I chose the 17Mach2 over the 17HMR.I am paying about half as much for the 17Mach2 loads as I can get the 17HMR for.

I am under the impression

that Prophet River is going to get some mach 2 ammo in the spring for a great price, you wont buy it elsewhere,
just my suspicions
they will know shortly about pricing I am sure, shot show is over and they are placing orders for stuff, might have to get a bunch myself

RIMFIRES FOREVER

I am waiting for that order myself. From what I understand, customers that purchased 17Mach2 guns from them will get the first chance to buy the ammunition,as well as the best price.I have already spoken for 8 cases(16,000 rounds). The total order is 100,000 rounds,so with a few guys like myself buying large amounts,it may not last long.

Where are you guys finding HM2 ammo for so cheap? Bass Pro and Le Baron both have HM2 for 15 a box while HMR ammo I was paying 16.29 a box. If the location you are buying it is far from Toronto HMR ammo makes a lot more sense to shoot for me. I am shooting Winchester 17 grain HMR.

Lol, Gunnutz are hoarders. I've love to see a show on TLC about this.

Lebaron had hm2 ammo on for $5.72 a box. I bought all they had in Ottawa.

It was in their catalogue so I'm sure the Toronto stores would of been the same price.

But will they send the ammo?? Or will it be pickup only?

i cleaned out the store around toronto, by the time i got to the store all they had was 5 bricks left.

that was about 4 months ago and im not sure if they have any more.
ive been to the store sevaral times since asking about it and each time they told me they dont have any in stock and they dont know when they will get any in.

i love my HM2
its my ultimate squirl gun, head shots only and yes, i eat the squirls so i try to make head shots only , even at 100and 80 meters and the litle HM2 preforms amazingaly.
