I was given this rifle as a gift and I know absolutely nothing about it. The previous owner was murdered in a car hi-jacking in Johannesburgh and his family just wants to get rid of the firearms.

Does anybody know anything about Santa Barbara rifles? All help will be appreciated.

DOS,

Howzit, the actions are Spanish made FN clones (same as Zastava's which are Serbian). As stated above, Santa Barbara built many of the actions used by Parker Hale.

In the late ninties there was a glut of Santa Barbara 7x57's in SA. I can't remember if it was Classic Arms or the old GRC Arms that was selling them. They came as a barreled action with a semi finished stock for R1600. I remember because I almost bought one - I always wanted a modern 7x57.

They are nice rifles, nothing fancy but a good working rifle in the same league as a Zastava/Mark X.

I would buy it...

These actions may seem a bit "rough" unless they have been polished a bit, but are good, solid, accurate rifles. I have owned several over the years [at leat 10], and they were all very functional, accurate firearms. Regards, Eagleye.

There was a California 'Santa Barbara' company that sold kits and whole rifles, long ago. Good stuff.
My boss in the gun shop had one(built from a kit) in .257 Roberts, he swore by. He shot a deer as it jumped a fence, one time. One shot. He put 80 pounds of meat in the shop fridge to age a bit. Power went out over the weekend. 80 pounds of spoiled meat. PO'd everybody.

Yes were allowed to carry...if you can convince the Banana republic of a real need to posses. You can wait for anything between 6 months and 2 years to get a license. Our Glorious President rapist and criminal Jacob Zuma, recently said that "we must not have fire arms in private hands". Sounds familiar?
