Any dealer wants to jump on that :

http:/ /www.centuryarms.biz/proddetail.asp?prod=AM124.

After discount: $275 a case
Free shipping in the US so there must be a way for a decent price

Nope, doesn't work that way, but a good thought.

It can't be sold in Canada unless it has approval from NRCAN. The costs/fees for NRCAN to test and "approve" the ammo, ($$ thousands) plus the extensive time involved, cross border shipping, brokerage, customs, etc, takes the price right back up to what the dealers are selling it for right now.

So unless you have a huge quantity over which you can spread the fees, and are willing to tie up your money for a year, it doesn't make sense. Plus on top of all that, there is no guarantee that NRCAN will even approve it. So what do you do then?

Well said. The problem with not being in the US...we have two sets of rules to play by....

You can handload for $240.00/1000 right here in Canada, today. You get to control the brass, bullet, primer, and powder load. You can make your rifle sing to the same tune as the music the completed cartridge is playing. Beats buying commercial or even from the U.S.

.223 is one of the cheapest calibers to reload. Al the components even with high demand are extremely abundant.

Is there any way we can get some "political" influence to force NRCAN to deal with these issues in a cheaper and more efficient manner--perhaps we need to spend some effort here as firearms users?

275 vs 240 is small potatoes. I would definitely stock up at those prices, even if I could reload. Reloading is boring for me. I stopped reloading for 9mm. Unless its for my 45-70, that one is still worth reloading, for money and for pleasure.
