Hello,

I've got an M&P .40, and I'm wondering if anybody has tried using a 4lb striker spring instead of the stock 5lb? The ads say it smooths out and lightens the trigger pull. Curious if there's anything to it.

Cheers

You're much better off leaving the striker spring and giving the action a good polishing (or replacing the sear in the next little while). The striker spring doesn't play that much of a role in the trigger pull, there are tons of other short comings that should be addressed first. There are smiths in the US getting under 3 pounds with all stock springs.

Thanks, think I'll just leave it as is and wait till I've got something worth tuning.

Cheers

I'm not saying the M&P isn't worth tuning, just that reducing the springs isn't the most effective way to arrive at your goal. I have literally tons of stuff on the M&P and thousands of rounds through them, I believe they're a terrific pistol. Every single person (including Glock Kool Aid guys) who fires my 9mm M&P comments on how nice the trigger is. Go to Dan Burwell's site (or mp-pistol.com) and search for "trigger job" instructions if you follow those instructions but instead of cutting and stoning, you polish using 2,000 - 3,000 grit sandpaper and metal polish on the contact points, you'll have a reliable trigger with a great pull (mines right around 4lbs crisp, no over travel and single short reset) and did I mention that it will be 100% reliable. I have never had a misfire. If you shoot at VFGPA, maybe I'll see you up there. If you fire me a PM with an email, I'll send you the trigger job info.
