During my safety course, the instructor didn't really get into too much detail about restricted rifles. I asked why the AR-15 was restricted, and the answer I got was basically, "Because of the way it looks".
I had kind of assumed from this (from looking at pics of restricted vs non-restricted) that if I rifle had a pistol grip, it might be restricted.
However, I was looking at the M14 section on Marstar, and they're selling stocks and pistol grips that make it look near as damn it to an assault rifle to me, presumably it's still an M14, and therefore unrestricted.
Can anyone explain this to me? Is there simply a list of rifles that are deemed "restricted", or is there some criteria to determine the status of the rifle? Can I make an AR-15 into an unrestricted, or an M14 into a restricted?
I'd appreciate any clarification that anyone can offer in this topic that's been murky to me at best thus far.
Cheers.
