Gun Rest Bags - Filler?

In case you want another 2 cents worth, here's mine:
I've been using rice for years. I have never had to change it but then I never let the bags get wet. Cheap and just the right weight and doesn't leak out.
By the way, I prefer not having to sweep other people's sand off the bench at the range before I can set down my stuff.

I use decorative sand that suppose to be used in candle vases,, bought the sand at Walmart,, any color you want,, very fine sand, no moisture either, but after reading the rest of the comments I may try and find these plastic beads,, the sand bags sure make the shooting bag heavy. :)

Since I prefer my bags "heavy", I use sand. I like the aquarium stuff sold at pet stores, but there are many sources of clean, dry sand. Regards, Eagleye.

My bags are fairly heavy, I filled them with fine crushed glass used in media blasting concrete to prep it for grouting. It was just laying around after a job, so I helped myself. Holds the stock shape very* well and is nice and dense, but like I said, Heavy, though not in the lead shot range.
