Can anyone explain what method they use to pin the tapco mags?

EDIT: I am not currently in possession of any unpinned tapco mags and my intent is to go to the US purchase them mod them there then bring them back across legally.

no dont rivet. i had to pin a 30 round and the gun at wisechoice gun smithing in orillia ontario did a geat job for me , he didnt rivet he put in a blocker, one that does not damage the clip overall if we ever encounter a zombie outbreak, also it is not visable

What was the blocker attached to? With what?
Can't be as easy as drilling out a rivet.

yes it is as easy as drilling a hole through it lonewolf but i prefer not to damage the clip, also Mr. Rob Wise at wisechoice gun smithing works wonders. not only did he pin it but he did it for me asap (in a day) for only ten bucks, so its up to you. to rivet or not to , thats a thread of its own kind.lol

I'm wondering how he pinned it.

I cemented in a slightly curved stiff wire (think coat hanger) in the rear guide channel. Works great and meets the requirements for Canadian law.

when using a rivet are you putting a washer on the inside or just a hole with the rivet through it . if without washer on the inside dose the rivot loosen up over time or the hole in the plastic get bigger with use?
do u take some spent shells to make sure you are on the money? would it be legal to take 5 empty used shells across the boarder?

i have a 303 mag with a flat peice of steel mounted to follower that stops it at 5 rounds real clean looks great because u cant see it .
but i think the boarder cops would like the rivet better because they can see it right off the hop.

I use a 5/32 diameter aluminum rivet 3/16 long. Make sure it is a aluminum rivet or you may break the plastic. Rivet the mag so it will take 5 1/2 round but not 6 rounds, that way the follower never hits the rivet. I have never had any rivets come loose. See the pic below, this is the position with the above rivet that gives you 5 and a bit rounds.

The one in the picture is a Tapco mag. I have used these mags with Russian SKS,will most likely work on others check the Tapco site. There is some slight filing required to the factory stock to make them fit, very minor.

+1 - BJS knows what he's talking about!

Thank you for posting that pretty much clears up all my questions. The rivet method looks to be the easiest/quickest.

The one I got from you fitted my Norc without sanding, but pretty tight.
Using it as a 'fixed' magazine, so I not worried about quick mag changes.
If I was, I'd do some filing. 1mm or 2. Nothing major.
