Hello all you SX3 owners.....I am thinking about buying this amazing looking semi auto shotgun.

I have a Remington 1100 in 12g and am sick and tired of it not working when i need it to work.

For you that have the SX3 what are your thoughts on this gun? Have you ever had any problems with it as far as reliability? Does it go bang every time the trigger is pulled?

I Will be using this gun for duck, geese, chicken's. I kinda like the walnut stock but is there any reason to get the camo stock besides the fact that it is camo? The biggest thing i am concerned about is the glare off the barrel while duck and goose hunting. But i do believe they have a matte finish which i think would be good.

Anything else i should know? Thanks guys!!

I've been hunting ducks since 1987 and have used pumps, semis, o/u and single shot muzzleloaders. I've used most finishes except camo. For the past 2 years I've used a Remington 870 Wingmaster with high gloss wood and metal finish. I've not had a problem with bagging my limits with any of them. I build my blind tight and keep the gun down until I am ready to jump up and shoot. My jumping up is more of an issue to the birds than a bit of glare off the barrel.

If you are the type of hunter that likes to shoulder his gun while hunkering down in the blind that yes, perhaps the glare may be an issue. Get some bow camo tape (removable) and tape it up. Remove it after the hunt.

I've used synthetic and walnut stocks. No difference. The synthetics don't show damage (scratches/dents) as easily as wood. But wood looks so much better.

Depends on how careful you are with you gun. I had an 11-87 Premier with beautiful walnut stocks. Too petty for the marsh so I bought a factory synthetic stock for ducks and used the walnut for display and upland.

PM me if you are thinking about selling the 1100. I'm almost always up for a challenge.

Yes, the gun goes bang every time I pull my trigger, and it has ever since I took it out of the box cleaned it and fired it.

3 1/2" gun most often shot with 1 1/8 oz 2 3/4" loads (broken in with these and never had the gun fail to bring in the next shell.

Apparently the guns now are shipped with 2 gas pistons for trap/skeet loads I assume and hunting loads.

Mine was only shipped with 1 gas piston bought in 2008 and will cycle 1 oz loads.

Check out the Shadow Grey model in synthetic, It looks awesome.

The only benefit of the synthetic over walnut is the ability to shim your stock with out having it gun smith fitted.

Just make sure it fits you before you buy it.

Thank you very much for the incite. I have been hunting geese for about 4-5 yrs now and maybe im just being to anal with gloss....most of the people i hunt with have a gloss barrel. I also use a pop up blind so just the barrel is sticking out a bit.

I think i will be going with that walnut stock it just looks so much better then the camo.

But i will have to check them out at the store when i get there.

Thanks again and if i ever do decide to sell the 1100 your the first one i will notify!!

But i also like a challenge, i might try to figure it out and use it for chickens...we will see.

i have one, composite matte black in 3.5" 28" barrel and at first it wouldn't cycle light loads (like the walmart stuff) but after about 250 to 300 loads havin some fun it now is flawless, eats up anything i give it, go ahead get one:rockOn:

Be sure to shoulder it and make sure it fits before you buy it, my friend. I had my heart set on an SX3, only to find that the stock did not have near enough drop for me, and wasn't adjustable on the Field model I wanted.

I ended up buying a Browning Silver Lightning- it has the same action as the SX3, costs a $150 less, and fit me better.

Yes that is why I bought the Synth model as I have a long neck and there is not enough drop at comb for a guy with a long neck. I used the 3R shim in my SX3.

Ok so im guessing i will know if it "fits" me well if it shoulders nice and just plain feels good in my hands, right?

That, and make sure your eye naturally lines up with the end of the barrel when you shoulder it. Also make sure you can reach the trigger comfortably. One last hint: If you plan on wearing earmuffs as opposed to plugs, I HIGHLY recommend you bring your muffs to the store with you and put them on when shouldering the firearm. Will you look goofy? Yup. Will you avoid purchasing a gun that won't work with bulky ear protection? Yup.

Trust me, you'll know when a gun a fits and when a gun doesn't fit. The SX3 was well balanced, and felt great until I shouldered it and realized that I had to literally bury my cheek in the stock to get things lined up. No matter how badly I wanted the gun, it just didn't work for me..........

Good luck. Keep us in the loop.

SX3's

I'm on my second SX3, sold my first one to upgrade to the Flanigun, now I ordered the Sporting shot show special. It's one of the best auto-loading shotgun that I have ever fired. I shoot trap & love this gun. I tried Remington's CTI 105 II & didn't like it at all compared to the SX3, in fact sold it today. I even let other club members try it out & 4 of them bought SX3's. I can't say nothing wrong about the gun but like other new guns, take it a part before shooting it to remove the factory grease, then..... bombs away!!!! When I got my first SX3 I shot it like Flanigan shoots his for the world speed record, I can't shoot it as fast as he does but I shoot it as fast as I can & it never jammed on me, I even got the extension as he does & it just rips!!!! Anyways I'll take any model SX3 over anything.

Joe.

Awesome!! thanks!..... Would anyone say that i'm crazy for giving up a Winchester model 70 super grade in 300 WSM for the SX3?

I won the model 70 but don't really need it so this is what i think i might get.

I wouldn't say you were crazy at all particularly if you didn't need the 300WSM. Getting rid of an 1100 that isn't working is always a good idea.

I've shot an SX3 but am happy with my Beretta 391. The Winchester is a slightly modified version of the Browning Gold and they are a proven design.

Love my SX3. Have a 3" in synthetic, great for hunting in bad weather, always goes bang, comfortable to carry.

Only thing brought up by another member on another board (i never thought about it..) is that the safety has a distinct click/tick to it.

If you plan to use for deer with slugs maybe a bit of a concern.

I don't use it for anything that doesn't fly, so that doesn't bother me.

i have a SX3 3.5in chamber. I put 3 boxes of heavy 3.5in game load through it. Now it eats up everything. i have put well over 1000 rounds through mine with very few jam's. love it to death.
