That's right, 23 northern BC shooters just took part in the BC Northern Winter Games Practical Shooting competition.
This is the second time the Prince Rupert Rod and Gun Club has hosted the event, the first time was approximately 1999 (?) and now in 2010, an Olympic year and in the Province the Olympic's are being hosted.
The push behind this successfull shoot was basically from one man with a small group of volunteers, our club president deserves a huge pat on the back for a job extremely well done.
Games officials and volunteers were not only impressed with our concern for safety and organization but were also energized at seeing this exiting sport for the first time. When they were extended the invitation to return tommorrow to actually shoot a variety of firearms (many for the first time), a more possitive experience could not have been had.
Some action shots:

As with any volunteer organization it runs on its stomach and let me tell you these three lady's were the bussiest people in the place, they make the difference between an OK event and a truly memorable one IMO. I'd also like to say with out the volunteer efforts of the guy at the counter our club would be in a serious dillema.

There were medals for other class winners as well, I'm sure other 'Nutz must have pictures as the camera's were everywhere.
And yes, Canadian Gun Nutz were there as well

People travelled long distances on winter roads to take part in our event, with out them it would not have happened,to them all I can say is thanks for coming (we really appreciate it).

Anyone else in Canada have any success at putting on this type of event?
IMO its worth it.

Incredible day weatherwise, not quite double digits but close.
No real wind to speak of and it only lightly rained here and there, not enought to even dampen the targets. We even had a rainbow...
Gotta love the west coast :)

Hey there Rupert dudes,

Thanks for the great shoot... again :)

It was cool to take part in an actual "...Games" event.

Big thanks to Ken, John, Glen, Rick and all the folks who keep things happening in the City of Rainbows :)

See you all later in the month at your club shoot.
Will you be posting the 2010 schedule soon?

John

The Northern BC Winter Games Society was elated that we were willing to add "Practical Shooting" to the list of games. It was quite involved, but well worth the effort. Word from the sidelines was that other communities in the north were quite impressed and wondered why they never had pistol matches is their previous games. Well, I guess the time is now to get things rolling for future games in the province as a whole. This may be a spring board into getting pistol (ipsc) involved with IOC. I offered a free invitation to all committee chairs, event managers, directors and volunteers of the 2010 BC Northern Winter Games to come out to the range and have a go at pistol shooting. We had 4 men and about 15 women come out to have some fun. These people never heard of IPSC prior to the 2010 NBCWG. End result was I had 2 people leave me their emails so I could contact them for signing up. I had a group of people newly awakened to interest of the sport. Even though some of them may never get into pistol shooting as a hobby, all IMHO left the range knowing that gun and gun clubs were not a bad thing at all.
I had from the list of interested first timers, school principle, school councillor, bank officer, ambulance attendant, business owners, city administrators, and clerks, husbands and wives.

The bottom line is we IPSC "athletes" won some medals, smiled at the cameras, had another great shoot, and above all........introduced people to our sport.

WIN WIN!!!

I'm missing how this was Provincially funded?

$75.00 Entry Fee - $15.00 for the club, their normal club match fee and $60. to the Northern Winter Games. Slavex that is what Liberals in this Province call free from the government. Like the Olympics were going to break even!

Take Care
