Removing hogue forend on DA Grizz?

Hi all, hoping someone could help me out here,

I'm trying to remove a hogue forend that came installed on my DA Grizz. I've got the shotgun disassembled and have screwed the keeper off the slide tube at the front of the forend. I'm thinking that at this point the forend should slide right off the tube but instead the two pieces are still firmly in place and won't separate. I've gone online and watched and read instructions on how to do this and everything indicates that once that keeper is removed the two pieces should slide apart. Any ideas what I could be missing?

ps - the hogue forend says "rem 870" on the bottom - not sure that matters but thought I'd mention it just in case that had something to do with it.

TIA

Sometimes they need a little persuasion to come off. Some of the Grizzlies were a little larger in the shell tube diameter than an 870. From the sounds of it someone put this one on and maybe forced it.

yeah, the grizzly forend tube is a few thou larger...it looks like in your case someone just used a mallet or something to force the plastic forend onto it.
this is why i always post 'dont just hammer the forend on, relieve the inside with sandpaper a bit or you wont be able to get it off'. :runaway:

good luck dude :(

try putting it in the freezer for 15 min? the metal should contract faster than the rubber/plastic. its worth a try, worst case im wrong and it doesnt work.

Dogzilla's got it,
Try and get some penetrating oil in there and I guess you could throw it in the freezer to try and shrink the steel a bit...

well i tried the oil and the freezer and she's still solid! Oh well, there's worse things than having a hogue forend on the shotty. It's not like there was anything wrong with it - I was just trying to learn how to take it all apart for cleaning etc.

But if I did want to change the forened (without destroying the hogue while trying to get it off the tube) my next thought is how available would a new (or preferably used) shell tube slider be and where could I find one?

Thanks for all your help guys!

Just wanted to thank you guys for the ideas! The freezer thing got me thinking so even though it didn't work I picked up some liquid freeze, plugged one end of the tube with a rag, filled her up and then gave it a tap with a hammer - plop, off it came! A little elbow grease later with a dowel and some sand paper on the inside of the forend and it's now a perfect fit! Thought I'd post about it in case it can help out someone else with the same or similar problem.

Thanks again!

Nice work Krazy!
I was going to ask you how long you left it in the freezer but sounds like the liquid freeze worked like a charm!
What's liquid freeze?

Ive seen this as a cleaning product, most commonly used to get gum off school or restaurant tables. Comes in an arisol can with a straw tube kinda like WD40.

Smart thinking Krazy!
