Hi guys. I apologize in advance any poor use of firearm terminology...

I finally got around to checking out a Model 39 my wife got from her father. When I close the action on the model 39, the rifle does not "####" (bolt head follows the bolt home) From what I remember of the model 60 I used to have, the action didn't work this way (would stay cocked when bolt was closed)

I know they're different rifles (single shot - tube fed repeater) but I thought the operation would be the same.

Is this normal operation for the 39, or is something broken?

"...something broken?..." Yep. The sear or hammer is worn or broken. The bolt could be worn too. Likely cost more to have fixed than the rifle is worth.

The single shot cooeys have to be hand cocked , after cartridge is in the chamber and bolt is closed all the way, by pulling the bolt rear section back til the trigger clicks. They do not #### on either opening or closing.

The model 39 as to be cocked manualy by pulling the bolt rear ward after it is locked into battary.toymaker you were one click ahead of me.

You may notice that when you manually #### it there is a half #### safety too - pull bolt back part way and cannot move the trigger, then when fully pulled back its cocked / trigger is engaged. The model 60 you could rotate the bolt while cocked to put it on safe - was a catch.

Manually cocked.
manually, is that by hand? :)

I didn't notice the half-#### position until you mentioned it. I guess everything is ok, and my wife can continue the cleaning/refinishing. :)

Thanks for the avalanche of replies guys!!!
