Matches.NET

Quigley, there is plenty other ways to abuse system, but we have a honor system here. So, there is nothing wrong to let some honorable shooter to shoot a match.

Anyways, for you the issue is mostly rhetorical, because there isn't as many matches in your area as in GTA.

Honestly...sometimes you are just ####ing clueless

Since ipsc-matches.net is not an official IPSC Ontario site................

It really is open territory.

As far as I know there is no IPSC Ontario Policy in how it is utilized.

Perhaps that should be a discussion at the board level.

Otherwise the old addage of the 2 week window call after 6 would apply would it not?

That's not entirely true...

The policy is that everyone gets access to the matches on an equal basis. I know that's not where you are going...but I know Eugene will swoop in here in a minute or two and let us know that he should have more access because he's special...and busy...or lives closer ;)

But no...there was never a policy on how far in advance to open things up (so long as everyone gets an equal chance to sign up) It was always avoided as a board level decision because it was always expected that the clubs were in the best position to determine when and how their matches should be administered...

Actually it is completely opposite. I am in front of a computer often for more then half a day, so I already have advantage to those who have to work shifts or travel as part of their work. So, your argument is a moo point and as I said, I don't see anything wrong with MDs accepting shooters using other channels.

Last year I did almost as twice matches as you, Craig, but I don't think that makes me special. Only for one of those matches I had to ask MD to sign me up, because I was on a road trip to another match when registration was open. You can see the stats at http://tinyurl.com/y9dbpyt

Listen

All I asked was a simple question. I recieved an answer wich stated that MD's don't open early because of "No Shows".

Most shooters who sign up will show up. I am sure there is alot of shooters who would like to plan a few months in advance. I am one of those.

I am a Chef, so that means I work weekends and Holidays.

Therefore if I cannot sign up in time to book the time off because, some people "No Show"

Then yes I feel that is wrong. Sorry that is the way I feel. I should not have too suffer becuase of a few people.

It is not an attempt at a "straw man argument" . I was using the gun registry as an example of how most of us(the masses) have settled at being held accountable for the few. Yet we all still complain about it.

This would be a much better forum if someone could give a suggestion, ask a question, or give their opinion with out getting slammed.

Honestly, look at my original post and read it. I asked a simple question and I got slammed right off the bat by "Johnespos". I wasn't complaining or anything.

This isn't right here gents.

maka, while Johnespos have a right to have his own opinion to require ipsc-matches as the only signup system, there are other matches and match directors who will have different take on that. All you have to do is ask directly the MD of the match you are interested in. The worse could happen is Johnespos will lose one shooter for his matches. No offense John.

I have no intention on shooting in Barrie. Nothing against John or anyone else. I just don't go up that way much. Now if the provincials are up that way then I guess I would go for sure. I am sure they put on a good match

Again, matches.net is a great sight and it works good.

As an example: Aurora match opened up today. I was at work so when I got home the only squad open was at 2:45. I start work at 2 on the 27th. So that is what I am dealing with. If that had opened up a week ago I could have done it.

Johnespos, I just noticed you have a match on March 6. C,mon man open it up. I will come for sure. We can have a bevy and laugh about it all:cheers:

and as I said, I don't see anything wrong with MDs accepting shooters using other channels.

Neither do I...in fact...the online system should not be the only method of signing up. It doesn't matter if it's online signup...or by phone...or email...or a smoke signal. As long as the gates open up for everyone at the same time.

...and I don't give a rats ass how many matches you shot last year.

:agree:

if someone wants to do an iphone or java app for smartphone (and even some not so smart phones) based signup, that might make life awesome for those not near a computer at all times.

*omen new feature request.

My New Policy:p
I will be using telepathy for now on.;)
Oh and bribes ($) work well to.:D ( open to everyone equally )
Maka, if you are a good chef, well then give me a call.:p Food works for me!
Other types of bribes will be considered as well.:stirthepot2:

It is not an "attempt' at a staw man arguement.

It IS a straw man argument. Perhaps in the general population it might not be but with the CGN audience it certainly is. What you did was take a situation that has no similarity to the current one we are discussing but that we can all agree upon and hold it up as equal. Sorry that is just not cricket in debate.

Now as to what the solution is?

I would have to say that the BC example of PREPAY is the one that comes to mind.

I am going to open up the 3 gun match as well as the EESA Chairty match shortly. They are Prepay so the risk of no shows is greatly reduced.

Perhaps Omen can set the system up so Prepay can be openned initially and then the gates fully openned as we approach the match for pay as you go types. That should satisfy everyone.

So I guess it comes down to would you still feel "picked on" if you had to prepay for a slot say 2 months in advance?

**off topic, but have to say,,,,Nice system EK,....this is the best system for posting results I have seen. thanks for setting it up.

Storm

I have already chatted with you about EESA charity match. I will be there for sure. Pre-payment is fine with me.

At least pre-payment is an attempt at fixing the problem. It still doesn't help if it isn't opened up more than 3 weeks before though.

The system is the system. I never asked for it to change. Just wanted to know why it is the way it is. I will be at matches the way it is. Just not as many that's all. I was really trying to plan to shoot as many as I could this year.
