Marstar BushRanger Review (Pics)

rusted barrel

I don't see a problem here.

If you are not satisfied with the gun for whatever reason, send it back to marstar and they will refund your money.

That's the Iron glad warranty, no questions asked.

Just wish that all dealers would stand behind their products like Marstar does.

I sent 2 guns back this year to dealers and got my money refunded. They don't like but they do it.

Most actually do. One even refunded me part of my shipping costs.

Does Marstar refund shipping costs? They charge $30 shipping for one rifle according to my MC statement, so if I send it back, I would be out $60, right?

Marstars web site states that the gun has to be returned "in original, unaltered condition". What does that mean? You cannot even open the box, cleaning is a big NO NO, right?

Then is says:

"You MUST include a copy of the registration certificate."
"must be received by Marstar no later than 30 days after the original shipping date"
OK, lets calculate: shipped to me on December 18 (original shipping date)

Canada Post says that it will arrive on December 31. Then I have to have the original registration certificate and Marstar has to have it back by January 18.

Impossible I say.
It also says:

"Failure to comply will result in the immediate return of your firearm,
at your cost, without addressing the reason for return. "

"The Fine Print: there is absolutely NO fine print in our Ironclad Guarantee! "

It also says:

Returning Goods to Marstar Canada

Important: never ship anything to Marstar without contacting us first. We will not accept unexpected shipments for security reasons and will not be responsible for postage and handling charges on parcels that have not been properly shipped.

Note: In order to take advantage of our Ironclad Guarantee, returned goods must be received by Marstar no later than 30 days after the original shipping date for Canadian orders, or no later than 45 days for U.S. and foreign orders. The original shipping date is the day the order was shipped from Marstar (consult the parcel’s postmark or packing slip for this).

1. Unless otherwise noted in our RMA (Returned Merchandise Auythorization), all returns must be shipped to us via parcel post surface mail (attn. U.S. clients: 'parcel post' means 'USPS,' not'UPS!'). Some goods are required by law to be shipped via courier: if this is the case we will advise you of this and make special arrangements when you contact us.

2. All parcels containing returned merchandise must without exception be clearly marked return of unsatisfactory goods on the parcel’s address side along with the RMA # ('returned merchandise authorization' number) to assist us in identifying the parcel, its contents, and the reason the goods are being returned. If the parcel is being shipped to us from outside Canada, its Customs Declaration label must also be marked return of unsatisfactory goods.

3. Marstar Canada cannot reimburse or provide credit for the following:

- incorrect shipping and/or unauthorized use of non 'parcel post' method of shipping (ie. 'using express, air mail, or courier services without our approval');

- Canadian or foreign customs handling charges, duties, excise taxes, and customs broker fees;

- any transaction charges, interest, or other fees charged by the client's financial institution.

I am posting this without any irony, so please mods, don't infract me for just stating the facts, thanks.

Marstar has offered to replace the cracked stock. I had not asked for this. I planned on glueing the crack and relieving the stress that caused it. I am pleased with this service and thank the CGN who may have contcted Marstar and suggeste this.

I am about to clean the 566 and then fi scopes top both of them for a range test.

Ummm... not so. I've returned 2 separate guns to Marstar in the past, back before I faced reality -- Norinco doesn't make high quality firearms, and I happen to like high quality firearms. Both guns were fired before the return. It wasn't hard -- I called them up and the conversation went something like this:

Me: "Hey, I got a Norinco here I bought from you that I really am not happy with"
Marstar: "Why?"
Me: "I'd like to get at least minute-o-pie-plate at 50 meters".
Marstar: "Ouch, you must have got a bad one. You wanna swap it out for another one, or just return it?"
Me: "Nope, I just want my money back."
Marstar: "OK, send it back" (followed with instructions on how they wanted that done).

I sent the gun back, and they gave me my money back. It was that easy. If they have any fine print or hoops for you to jump through, it's probably because they (legally) need to have an "out" if they have to deal with a psycho-customer-from-hell.

At the end of the day -- I'm not a fan of Norinco firearms anymore. But I would do business with Marstar again in a heartbeat; those guys are doing a pretty good job at customer service, based on my experience.

most of your post was quoting marstar return policy, why? cant potential buyers read for themselves? if you dont like their return policy then by all means dont buy from them .

I have had numerous dealing's with Marstar and no matter what has happened these guy's have given me nothing but top notch service & would deal with them anytime. Hell it's like we are talking about customer service from Lever Arms or something. Quailty company's like Marstar, try to give us the best of both worlds and all we do is seem to complain about them. Sorry just can't stand these same thread's that come up on a monthly bases.

Ok, I took the 5.56 apart and cleaned off all the oil. The barrel inside is spotless. the trigger is now long and creepy, but since it is fully adjustable, I have no doubt I can improve on it. As has been reported, one page of the owner's manual shows what each adjustment screw does.

The barrel is an inch longer and a bit thicker than the 7.72 version, so it has some accuracy potential.

Next step is scope installation and range testing before bedding and accuraizing.

I agree with ya 762mm,but its christmas day give them a break and I'm sure you'll hear from them in the near future. I've been working on my bores for maybe two hours each and they're still very dirty, with no sparkling new bore on the horizon. Johnone will handle it,don't worry.

Well, it's mid February and still I haven't heard anything back from Marstar regarding my report of a seriously rusted JW-103 bore (which was in that condition when the gun arrived). The description on their website hasn't changed either to warn potential customers, even though other CGNers have also reported writing them emails about it. My e-mail was sent right before the Holidays.

I'm not looking to return the gun, but at least something like 'sorry for the inconvenience' would've been nice... especially since I have 100+ year old guns that have had less rust/pitting in the bore throughout their lives than my brand new JW-103 came with. Call me crazy, but I seriously think that I shouldn't have to de-rust a bore on a brand new gun, no matter where it was made and how much it sells for.

Oh well... live and learn, I suppose...

:(

762mm;
Since I can't trace any file under this name, may I suggest you pack up the rfile and send it back as soon as convenient.... we will cover all costs....

Don't worry about it. I cleaned the rust out by brushing it for 30 minutes, then by soaking it in EvapoRust and oiling, which pretty much restored the condition of the barrel to a shootable & acceptable state (with some pitting remaining though) - please refer to my post #14 above for details. I shoudln't have to do this on a new gun... I understand there's the return option with all costs covered (which is a good thing), but it's also a pain in the ass for the customer... especially when it's not an isolated incident and there's nothing to mention it in the item's description.

Returning the gun is not the point here, what I was getting at is the fact that I was not alone in this situation, yet you guys haven't officially acknowledged the problem yet or changed the description of the rifle on your website. Just stating the facts, nothing more.

I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't have bothered with this particular one if I knew the bore is known to be rusted on them (and would've bought a CZ-527 in 7.62x39 instead). You guys usually have good service and products (I've bought from you in the past), but I wasn't very impressed with the entire JW-103 situation, to say the least. I'm sure you know what I mean... it's like buying a new car: when you get it, you don't expect a blown engine - even if it comes with a full 5 year warranty (stuck Toyota gas pedals come to mind here, lol).

I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply in this thread though...

;)
