Lever .22's?

Henry makes a lever action .22. Should be easy enough to buy new from a dealer like epps or cabelas and I think a wmr version is available. Norinco makes them too, but not sure on the availability. There always the venerable Winchester 9422, which are unfortunately not made anymore but come up for sale every so often. Many 9422 models were offered in both lr and wmr. Marlin makes the golden 39a, which I believe are still produced, but only shoots short,lr or long. Ithica made a .22 lever called the saddle gun. You see those for sale sometimes and are usually fairly inexpensive. Almost forgot, theres the Remington Nylon 76. These are very rare and likely will cost a bit.
 
There is also the Browning BL-22, a very nice little lever gun with a particularly short throw lever.

The Marlin Golden 39A is a great gun (built like a tank and extremely accurate), but it has a 24" barrel which I find to be cumbersome in the bush.

I like the Henry lever guns a lot too. Before I got my Browning, I always had a 16" Henry youth carbine strapped to my backpack. A fantastic small bush gun! My only complaint about the Henrys is that the lever throw is quite long. I can pretty much work the Browning lever without letting go of the stock which makes for a fast second shot. But for the price, you can't beat the Henrys.

Oh, Henry lever guns are available in WMR but the Browning and Marlin are not. :(

Yeah the BL-22 is also a very good choice. Somehow I forgot it from my seemingly comprehensive list. The Henrys are a very good price for the gun you get. I think they are around 250$ brand new.
 
mine is a Marlin Golden Mountie 39A and it is by far my bet lever..

I have had a henry and winchester as well..

I found the Henry a pretty good rifle, impressed.

Stay away fom those, (Norinco?) ones...

Yeah I would agree, stay away from the Norincos, especially since they wouldnt be much ( or at all) cheaper than a Henry or Ithica
 
All right, thanks, looks like the henrys are pretty decent. I was looking for around a 18-20" barrel so the Henry's seem to fit. $350 is not that bad at all.
 
If you buy the Henry spent the extra for a golden boy. It has the nicest action of any lever I have ever had. Just bought one new from Epps and bought a Winchester 9422M from a guy I met in a gun store. Love them both.
 
Wow gun prices sure have risen over the last few years. I was looking at a henry lever .22 back in November 2008 and a brand new one at Epps or Cabelas was like 250$. Its still a quality gun for the money though.
 
You can't go wrong with the BL-22. It's a gun built for life, no plastic on it and the fit/finish is impeccable. I have a pic up on here somewhere, too lazy to repost it right now. I will admit that I have not shot the Marlin, but the Henry I have handled. Although smoooooth, the Henry does not have the hand-me-down refinement of the Browning or other older levers. Don't get me wrong, I'd buy a Henry if I had the need, but it's a matter of personal preferance and the Browning won for me.

Please enlighten me on how the Golden boy has a smoother action than the
H001?, A couple of Gawdy brass covers slapped on each side of the reciever plus a few other cosmetic differences was all I was aware of ;) Internals are identical AFAIK
 
Sun and Steel 77: You are correct. The internals are the same on the Golden Boy and the H001. The owner of Henry is a frequent poster over on rimfire central and has stated this on more than one occasion. :)
 
I have had a Marlin 39a but it had issues and I sold it. Had a Browning BL22 and should not have sold it. Currently have a 9422 in mint cond and it has been taken over by Mrs Oakley. Not worth the risk of selling it so it stays. They are all nice guns to shoot but I like the Winnie and the Browning the best. Henry might be nice to have too.
 
It was not too long ago there was a Marlin 57 .22 Magnum on the EE.
My 39a Mountie is not for sale unless you got deep pockets. I shot a 10 shot groups with CCI MiniMags at 50 metres that measured .95 c-c.
What was the problem with you 39a Bogie?
