Glock 17 upgrades?

Hey all, looking for advice anyone has about upgrades I should do on my bone stock 1st gen Glock 17. I was thinking of ordering a 3.5 lb ghost connector and a firing pin spring from glockparts.com but dont know what else I should upgrade. Any thoughts?

A, if you just got your G17, +1 on N's advise. Buy ammo first and learn to shoot it the way it is. Just got my G17 (used) a couple of weeks ago, and still am amazed how this simple, well-thought off design can fire so well in stock form.
Since I mold and reload 9mm, did order a Lone Wolff barrel after trying out my friend's G17 equipped with one. These drop-in barrels don't mind lead bullets in quantity and improve groupings. Enjoy shopping and happy shooting!!!!:D
 
+1 on the ammo!

The one and only mod from stock that you will find to be useful is an extended slide stop lever, the stock one just isn't well designed.

Any other mod you can do is strictly cosmetic for the most part.
 
Better sights, I like Heinie rear with Dawson fibre optic front sight, and a Glock extended mag release should do it.
 
Good sights are a must on a service pistol IMO.

Also, take a look at the extended mag release as the stock ones can be difficult to manipulate.

I also added in a #3.5 disconnector since the trigger on my stock 3rd gen G17 was around 8-9 lbs....too heavy for competition IMO.

I would forget the firing pin spring, though a lot of guys will use the NY1 trigger spring when the swap out the disconnector. I also am not too fond of the extended slide release, just gets in the way.
 
Mods really depend on if your shooting to compete.

IE IPSC, are you planning on shotting production? then keep trigger stock. Dawson precision fiber front is the best ( slimmest)

or if you wanna go OPEN... Skys the limit!! Ported Lone Wolfe Barrells, ICE Mag wells, Lower # disconnector, spring kits, sights, C-More....it just keeps going :D:D

Alright thanks guys, I have ordered a set of trijicon steel night sights already and was thinking of getting the hogue handall. I took it to the range yesterday and it took me about 75 rounds to get used to it but I was getting nice groups for the remaining 75. I really like it. I will just be using it for target practice and home defence so I will switch the sights and keep it stock for now..........and definitely buy more ammo ;)

As previously mentioned get some steel sites, I have seen the front plastic ones get ripped off during an enthusiastic draw from a holster. Still though one of the best mods ive seen done to a glock is when you sell it and get a 1911 instead :)

I have also ordered a 3.5 lb Ghost Ultimate disconnector and 4lb firing pin spring to lighten the trigger, that with the night sights should suffice for now aside from more rounds in more mags:D. I really like 1911's aswell, had a Norinco that was crap. I would like a Colt, Para, or Kimber though
 
How can you make "perfection" better?

Beside the standard s**tty "U" sights (Which works kinda well with practice... just used to 3 dots; i pick it up faster), I wouldn't change anything..

From the parts you ordered, allow me to suggest, holding off on installing the connector and 4lb. spring. Install the night sights and practise the rest in stock until you feel you really "know" the gun. Then install the upgrades and you'll be even better.
As for 1911's, IMO, gotta be the Kimber. Its the best performing one right out of the box. Happy shooting!!!!!:D
