M14 without FH?

How many grains of 4064 are you using??
Now you got me wanting to re-test mine without the flash hider and see if I get better groups. Now you quote this as how it groups w/o flash hider. Did you do any testing with it still on?
I was getting 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 groups with Mil Surp ammo with a Leupold 2-7 scope off the bench. I'm sure handloads would tighten that up. Seems to me I was using 45.2 grains of 4064 with 165 grain Nosler Partitions and that worked very well in my Remington, also shot very close to the 150 grain mil surp in the Norc. Never checked the handloads on the bench with the Norc though so I don't know how they would have faired. They were great in my Remington.

and therein lies your problem- i've got 4 m14s( the isreali and a norc early) and not one of them shoots near as well as with at least 165's - i use ww748 in various quantities to wring out the absoute last second of accuracy out of those rifles, and i get 1 moa at 100 yards for all 20 rounds- typically my groups will be the size of a quarter- they open up a bit having to change mags,but there you have it
no, i'm scoped, 4x12x40 single point mount- it's an s&k steel,( they tell me it's rare) from the days of vn- but that's also bench rested, sandbagged, with the buttplate up- in other words i've done everything humanly possible to eliminate myself from the rifle- and a LOT of load develoipment with ww748- we're talking hundreds of rounds- not a lot of guys are willing to do that

So 20 rounds in 1 moa with a Norc m14? Just asking because I'm heavily leaning towards one as my next gun, and if you've shot that with yours that's good enough to tip me over the edge...
you're ASSUMING that it's going to do that right out of the box- i went through 4 different bullet manufacturers, did the mod with the fiberglas stock, and sent about 400 rounds down range BEFORE i started to get that group- on top of that i MAY have gotten LUCKY with that particular rifle- it's an OLD NORC with the vertical grind- the 3 isreali m14s i had would do that RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX-in other words, i MAY have gotten the IDEAL load for that rifle, along with the right mount,scope, etc- your results will no doubt vary

No, I'm not assuming it'll do it out of the box. I would expect to take a year at least to build up the right load/mods to get it there. However, if you have actually shot that well (20 shots in 1 MOA) with one, then it shows me that there is potential in the Norc rifles. That's awesome that you took the time to develop a load like that; I bet it's really rewarding to have 20 round targets in one big hole - maybe in a few years I'll have one myself. 
mind you, you BREATHE during the group and the darned thing goes out the window- i've got a harris under the front end as well, and used the front sling swivel rivet to mount the stud which is epoxied in placeNo, I'm not assuming it'll do it out of the box.
