Grouch
I presently have 4 64s, a 54 and 3 CZs, along with a raft of other 22LRs. I have also rebuilt, tuned and set up dozens of 22 lrs for people for bench, biatholon, 50 meter and silouhette. If one ignores the cost differences and looks only at ulimate performance then "Preference" has nothing to do with it. Straight results, smallest groups at a given yardage by many different shooters, longterm reliabiltiy, lack of parts wearing out etc, means Anschutz wins the arguement over CZ, hands down. As does the fact you can still get parts for your 60 year old Annie. Try that on a Brno, now CZ.
Slow firing pin? and just how are you measuring that. Slow lock times should equal biggger groups, all other things being equal. Thus one of the reasoons for the superiority of the 54 over the 64. That does however presume equal barrel, action ,trigger and tolerances and they simply aren't when comparing Anschutz to CZ. Take a good micrometer that measures to .0001 to the two and you will see the difference, even if you don't believe the groups.
I can't disprove your claim about CZ having a faster lock time than the 64, nor do I care to. What I do know for sure is the Anschutz, barring some defect or needed repair, will almost always shoots better groups than a CZ and 100 new 64s against 100 new 452s, it won't even be close..
This is not just my opinion. Watch the olympics, that are happening right now in Vancouver. Price no object, you don't see any CZs in Biathalon. You do see a pile of Anschutz 54s. Results and performance rules, opinions are etc etc.
