Actually, when we tested that unit in my driveway, we filled it with floor dry. (dehydrated Georgia Clay) Much heavier than media. It worked like it was empty, no issues with the weight at all.

These guys are using the same method but with stainless steel media and its cleaning the brass WAY better than the walnut media

The stainless idea has merit. But the initial $$$

Being the tightwad type, I'm looking for alternatives. Now I know for example that an enterprising sort like fogducker would have access to stainless drill curlings. That might prove too sharp, but it would be worth a try.

fantastic, another suggestion, one i'm going to try, is to go to lee valley tools and get the "oddjob cement mixer" it's about the same size drum and has internal baffles to mix the brass properly. then make up the same type of roller and giv 'er

I'm actually close to finishing mine already, based on this foginator. I can't figure out how to make the covers though! Ideas anyone?
