$8000 Hi-Power

Someone will buy it.

Someone would buy it even if the price was doubled.

Especially now that Major Winters was made famous by Band of Brothers.
I don't get the writeup. It says it was 'returned' by the Major. Returned to who?

In the last couple years they have had a few P08 Lugers of his as well. They appear to have sold.

Neat piece of history for sure. Nazi Proofed Hi-powers are rare in themselves are they not? Then include that it was once "owned" by someone in the 101st, let alone 506, let alone Easy Company, let alone Major Winters himself to which Band of Brothers made famous Im sure someone will buy it.

The German military took some 300,000 Model 1935 HP pistols from FN during their occupation of Belgium in WWII so they can't be all that rare, although a lot of them were apparently not Nazi marked in the beginning.

A person can learn something new evryday!I never knew the nazi's had hi-powers and have never heard it mentioned in war movies, doc's or old history shows at all.Interesting!:)

They were I think one of the only, if not THE only, firearms manufactured for both sides in the European campaign. Of course the Nazis had a habit of using whatever they found, Thompsons, Carbines, SVT-40s, etc... but those were all captures.

It might mean more if #### Winters paper to go with the pistol had some more providence to go with it. Like it was taken from Col. ###X at ###X when ###X was liberated or such. The way it reads for me now is someone brought back a bag full of captured pistols and 65+ years later someone else is making a piss pot full of money off it.

I hope Mr. Winters is getting the lion's share of the proceeds 'cause in my books he's more than earned it. I spent 7 nights in Normany in June 2009 for the 65th anniversary celebrations of the D-Day invasion. I was at Brecourt Manor, Spear's corner, Carentan, Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Ste Mere Eglise, Ste Marie du Mont, and the whole general area, etc.... Yeah, those boys more than earned it.

NAA.

Radom was in the same situation when Germans overran Poland.

and for some reason Bren comes to mind.

I know Nazi marked Hi-Powers fetch a premium but $8,000 is just a little steep unless Richard Winters himself personally delivers it to you. I think he's still alive and kicking?

Now for those of you who (unlike me!) have cash to splash on interesting and rare milsurp pistols, Goble's is listing a Persian Luger for $4,000 on their site and in the March issue of Access. That's something you don't see very often.

Probably thinking of the Czech ZB-26 made by Brno? It would be considered a predecessor to the Bren and as I recall it was quite widely used in the early years, since I suppose the Germans found it handy being in 8mm Mauser already.

If Band of Brothers had never been a popular book and television serie, I don't think this gun would be sold for more than $1500-$2000. With over 300 000 Pistole 640(b) units made by the Germans in occupied Belgium, they are not that hard to find. For that price, I'd get myself a nice Krieghof Luger instead, still an interesting piece to impress the crowd nevertheless.

Maybe the Germans did not build the Bren, but they did convert them to 8MM Mauser when they could get their hands on them. Or they'd just use them in .303 Brit, there was plenty of that around too.

You sure its not him selling it? He was selling a couple of other guns captured Lugers I think last year.

No doubt. They had lots to play with after Dunkirk and must've done something with the Bren's when they started converting Universal Carriers for all kinds of purposes. The ZB 26 was similar and notably more widely adopted, which is why I mentioned it.

Good question.
