Hi,

Can you shoot +P ammo in a Beretta 92FS in 9mm , muzzle velocity, 1200 fps.

Thanks.

Beside the barrel life can be shorter, is the gun will go KABOOM.

It's not really the barrel life that will suffer, the recoil spring life will and in Berettas the locking block may wear quicker. This is all dependant on how many +P's you shoot. Also keep in mind that some ammunition (particularly European and NATO) may not be marked as +P but would be considered so by SAAMI. The Europeans have a different set of standards.

Isnt' standard NATO 9mm +P?

It's not marked +P but if you look at the specs, it's really close -I've read that the standard pressure is 41,500 psi for NATO loads and 38,000 psi for civie loads. Also you need to know that the US standard (SAAMI) refers to it's standard load as '9mm Luger' - the Europeans call theirs '9mm Parabellum' - and obviously NATO calls theirs '9mm NATO' these names do actually reflect loads with different pressure characteristics.

The difference in high pressure +P ammo, like 9mm, is minor. It makes MUCH more of a difference in lower pressure ammo like 38 Special and 45 ACP.

From a thread in the Reloading Section.

Depending on the cartridge, the difference between a regular round and +P can be small. It is more of a lawyer designed load. Lower pressure cartridges benefit much more than high pressure cartridges because the pressure increase is a higher percentage of the max pressure.

Well if IDPA is anything like IPSC, the bullet can be downloaded quite a bit lower than factory and still make power factor. The pistol was designed to fire a certain bullet so I don't consider shooting that bullet as "beating up the gun".

That being said, I reload and download :D
