Last Canadian WWI veteran has died

Another man passes into the earth, where poppies shall grow and silent winds blow. God bless him for turning his hand to war and his other to freedom for his people.

Lest we forget.

A link to our past has just been lost. Will we forget our soldiers who served in "The War to End All Wars"? Will we forget our soldiers who served in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and other theaters since?
Our current and future generations will never be able to grasp what sacrifices the soldiers of that WW1 endured. Neither can they grasp what the soldiers of later conflicts experienced. What we see now, with our boys overseas, will be the closest our country will get to the experiences and hardships of our past. Will we forget our soldiers of today? I hope truly hope not, but I realistically believe most of us will. There has already been talk of the importance of Remembrance day, since our veterans of that era, WW1, are no longer with us. We will have to work hard to ensure that November 11 will never drift out of lives, or become "just another day off work".
Please remember Mr. Babcock and all others who have served our country both past and present...not just today but every day!!!!

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The Army Soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass.

'Step forward now, Soldier,
How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders and said, 'No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep.... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, so if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod.
As the Soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God.
'Step forward now, you Soldier, You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell.'

RIP

Think about this, WW2 ended 65 years ago. How soon will we be saying that about the last WW2 veteran? Korea?

All too quickly I'm afraid - but our political bastards will find us more wars to mourn our dead for... lest we forget indeed. Hence why I always love to rub the hippy granola-cruncher's face in the dirt when they say war sucks...they dont know squat - and they always STFU! LOL!
