I've been bringing a BYF 44 K98k back to life recently (a "Nazi Zombie"? :p)

One of the things I discovered on disassembling it, is that the piece that the cleaning rod screws into is missing.

Is there a special name for this part? I took one out of another K98k I have, because I wanted to see the BYF 44 all put together in its current state. It is just a little square/rectangular piece of metal with a threaded hole and a little indentation which is used to be able to pry it out of the stock. I've been looking for this part on the Numrich website, as I am going to need another one now.

Has anyone seen this part anywhere on the Numrich website or another website that I could order it from, and what is it called? "cleaning rod retaining piece"?

Thanks for any help you can provide. I'll put some pics of the BYF 44 up soon, and maybe some video as well.

Edit: O.k., here are some pics, video should be in a few minutes:

This is the repro sling from Numrich, if any of you are thinking of ordering it. It smells a bit like rotten fish when you first get it, but that seems to be fading.

Question: On the buttplate you can see "brg 41". What is that? Is that just another make of the rifle, like BYF 44 (which is what most of the rest of the rifle says), or is that something particular to buttplates.

I have two K98k's, but I am pretty new to milsurps, so I am very much in the learning stage.

I know the same part on my M91 is called a "Cleaning rod nut" but it serves the same function.

It appears Numrich has completely re-vamped their website and I was not able to find the part on their listing yet. I would hate to have to pay the $25 import fee for a cleaning rod nut.

Yes, no doubt. The Numrich website was brutally confusing and poorly laid out before. The new "improvements" appear to be making it even worse. The $25 import fee does suck, but Numrich is one of the few places left that will actually send you firearms parts from the states without a bunch of fuss (or at all). If I order the cleaning rod nut from there I would put it in with a larger order to spread out the pain over $100 worth of items.

Hi ghostie, sorry i do'nt know how to name it but email me your address and i will mail one to you.

Wow, an offer I can't refuse! PM sent. I'll pay for it, at least the postage and handling. You don't need to cover the costs of sending me a part.

I will hopefully have some pics and vids of the BYF44 K98k Mauser up later tonight (Saturday the 20th), as I will be out at the range with it today.

Thats exactly what I did when I needed a cleaning rod and two capture screws for my Kar98k, I picked up some Mosin accessories as well as some C96 stripper clips. I just wish they did not cap the orders at $100.

Glad to hear someone on CGN has the part you need :).

Just wanted to say a huge "thank you" to JUDES BOUCHARD who sent me the "cleaning rod nut" for a K98k that I was looking for. Thanks a lot man! That is one of the nicest things a stranger (until now) has done for me that I can think of. I tried it out on the cleaning rod that I have, and the threading is proper and it fits in the stock, so yah, perfect.

I never did find any on the Numrich website. Maybe the piece generally just goes along with the stock, I don't know.

I'll post some more pics of the BYF 44 when I get a chance. Until then, here is a little eye candy from my other K98k - which is a Czech refurb of a DOT 44, and some of my other rifles (These have been posted before)

Absolutely beautiful!! Nice work, those k98s are addicting!! You seem to have a fondness for the Czech beauties as well! Always an excellent choice. Thanks for showing.

I tell it just like my Grandson who is 2 1/2 years old: " WOOOOOW good job ". And the part
name is " cleaning rod stud ".

Pleasure is mine, Judes
